  • Cullaby Lake Regatta Roll Call

So, can we continue this roll of 100+ entry a day races? Can we make it 5 out of 6? No Divisionals this year, but we still have the beach and bumper cars. Weather is looking good - they're talking upper 80's in Portland, that would mean low 70's on the coast.

Now I know we'll miss the Kellys and Gleason, because they're playing with the big hairdryer boats this weekend in Evansville, but how about the rest of you? We'll be there managing your risk (hopefully w/ no flying ez-ups ) and scoring your heats. Directions and accommodation information at http://www.coraracer.com

    Hey - did I mention it's a Babcock Race?

The Chief Scorer is mighty disappointed in the online registration so far. Remember, register online by Thursday night, and save $5 on your first entry. That pays for a gallon of gas or two rounds of bumper cars.

You're good, Bill. 60 pre-registered so far - thanks. We seem to be shy 4-6 CSH and 2-3 20ss entries from previous races. Hopefully high rollers who don't need the early entry discount.

Daren, you're excused. How about we mark you down for Rockaway instead

Weather is looking even better. And did I see Ken Kaiser signed up for DSH?

                      Regrets

Y-250cc powerhead is broken and being repaired, and so am I (I pulled a right shoulder muscle at Woodland last weekend.) Would have loved to have made it this year with the Pro boat, but that's racing! Will stay home and work on the cowling mod for Olympia (hopefully) with a cold beer...

                        Conoco Gas

I went to get gas at Chevron tonight and our local station now have the 10% Ethanol signs on the pumps. I stopped by Conoco and asked them if they have ethanol in their gas and they told me know. I guess I'll find out tomorrow if the Conoco gas passes the test.

I noticed that Thursday our local gas station just put up signs that our fuel is now tainted with ethanol. It won't be long and it will be in all of the fuels. Rules will have to change with the times.

                            Fuel of the Day

CORA folks have been good about picking a local Chevron or other brand station and calling it the "gas reference fuel of the day". I believe practically all gas suppied in Northwestern Oregon has ethanol in it now (I know it's a law in the City of Portland now.)

The irony is both Washington and Oregon now meet the EPA standards concerning car emissions' contibution to air polution and, generally, many older cars (6 yrs or older) get worse mileage (lose 2-3 gals/mile) with ethanol. This is strictly "politics" to support ethanol suppliers and the associated fuel distribution companies who have recently invested in new facilities to produce and blend ethanol into gasoline grades, and not due to good reasoning or economy (ethanol production and the Midwest flooding problems are now also driving food and fuel prices up.)

Al, I think that is what will have to happen. When a race is put on they will have to pick the station of choice for the weekend. Then you buy all of your fuel there and show a reciet when you get back to the race site. They are even playing games with "premium" fuel! The milage really suffers in our 79 Corvette and yet there is no price break
