We had a great time at Augusta. We hope to come back next year.
      Thanks to MHRA!

Also, glad to hear T.J. and Bob Hartman are doing well.

        Augusta...where to start?

First of all, thank you to everyone for the kind words regarding my involvment with this race. I'm really proud of this site and glad it was well received by the park and their managment.

Secondly (should be first), this race would not have happened without the help of Tom Low and I apologize for not mentioning him at the drivers meeting. Tom did much of the behind the scenes work including passing out posters, securing turnboats, tents, and dock sections for the judges stand. He also made up directional signs and hung banners to promote the races. Tom worked as the "local" contact and really helped me make all of this happen.

MHRA had a great team their on Friday to do a lot of pre-race set up (including 20 outside course markers). Thanks Larry! We also had some newer faces helping to teardown on Friday and get things packed up pretty quickly.

Even though the numbers were a little less than we had hoped for, we did have a very good racing and only a few spills. Thanks to the "long haulers" for making the trip: Kiddy's, Oberlin's (both for the second week in a row), Runne's, and our Region 7 friends as well.

As Dean mentioned the park was very pleased and the concession stand said they we're very happy with their sales. Also, have to agree that the picnic dinner Saturday night was the best $10 boat race dinner I've ever had.

For those that came, we hope to see you next year. For those that didn't you missed a great race.

          forgot a few things

As Brett mentioned H & H rescue did another great job with a couple incidents that we had on Satuday afternoon. We are also glad to see that they have another potential new member (Brandi) working with them. Life EMS was also a great ambulance service and I'm glad we chose them to provide service for this event.

Also, we did have a pretty good turnout of spectators during the days considering the 2 periods of bad weather and it was great to have Brian Caferelli on hand to handle much of the announcing duties. I had many people tell me how good he was and they thought that he really kept the spectators entertained.

Lastly, thanks to the racers for following the many rules we had to put forth and for great patrol boat changes on Sunday. We got a little behind due to the late incidents on Friday and were able to run about 28 heats, 2 marathons, one 15 minute weather delay and make 5 patrol boat changes between 10:25a and 5:10p. Great job!

I just checked the radar and it was a great weekend!

I would like to say thank you one last time to:

Mark the Oberlin's would like to say that we had a great time and plan to attend in the future. You may have some more members befor long we had allot of family and friends come out to August and I believe they are hooked. As a matter of fact it was my nephew TJ who worked on TJ until the Ambulance crew could respond my nephew is a EMT in Lansing I'm trying to talk him into volunteering to help out the rescue team. Tom and Adam Lowe took my hole family under there wing and were a great help. Lastly I like August and Constantine being back to back it definitely helped on the Gas cost If anyone hasen't put theses events on there calander for next year they will be missing out on 2 of the very best sites I've seen

GREAT JOB MHRA. I DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER TO THE POOR TURN OUT BY THE QUOTE "MARATHON RACERS" . I WONDER WHAT IT WILL TAKE TO HAVE FULL FEILD OF MARATHON DRIVERS. MAYBE WE SHOULD HAVE ONE RACE SO EVERYBODY WILL COME. I AGREE THAT MANY PEOPLE WANT TO TALK ABOUT ALL THE THINGS "THEY SHOULD DO ". WELL "THEY "ARE DOING BUT WE NEED SUPPORT FROM THE DRIVERS TO KEEP THINGS GOING. I HOPE THE QUOTE "MARATHON DRIVERS" COME TO TRENTON !!! OR TRENTON WILL BE ALL DONE WITH THE MARATHON !!! RACE OR NOT TO RACE THAT IS THE QUESTION??? AND ALL WHO DID COME TO AUGUSTA ALSO THEY NEED TO SUPPORT GRASS LAKE ; BIG RAPIDS . . ON A COOL DOWN NOTE . THANKS TO ROSS RACING FOR LETTING ME RUN THE CSR CHORT COURSE . AND TO JEFF 55V FOR LOANING ME HIS C RUNABOUT FOR THE MARATHON . SINCE MY RIG GOT DESTOYED IN AN ACCIDENT ON THE WAY TO AUGUSTA . I LOVE THIS SPORT AND I WANT TO SEE IT GROW . SO THE QUESTION IS FOR THE MARATHON GUYS IS "RACE OR NOT TO RACE" THAT IS THE ????

                  one last thing...

...I talked to the caterer yesteray and they said that not only did they have a great weekend (for business), but we were the nicest group of people that she's ever worked with. I guess that's not too hard when you have a group of tired, hungry racers wanting to eat some good food.

Anyway, she noted that all the racers were very friendly, courteous and complimentary. Overall she said that "we just seemed like a great group of people". I couldn't have said it better. That's why we keep doing this.

Thank again to all that attended and left a lasting impression on our hosts.
