Woodland WA Benefit Race on June 22nd

Washington/Oregon Racers,

Please come to Woodand Washington's Horseshoe Lake Park (right next to the I-5 Freeway) this weekend on Sunday at 8:00 am to register your boats and support a "Race Against Drugs" benefit & special event. This outboard racing event has been advertised in several local papers, gives both AOF and APBA clubs great Public Relations exposure, and provides some additional fun at the Planters Days Festival. This race is right on the lake's north end in front of the Festival!

We also want to raise money for A.J. Patnode, a local boy with a severe, un-reversable muscle contraction disease that leaves him immobile.

Where else can you race for ony $30 a day and also support such good causes as these? Join us for some fun. We have event medallions for first through third place finishes. The race is sponsored by Machined Components, Les Schwab, JH Kelly Construction, ESS Inc, Woodland Planters Days Committee, Cowlitz Meth Action Team, Cowlitz #1 Fire & Rescue, Woodland Fire & Water Rescue, City of Woodland, AOF Headquarters, and many local and state volunteers as race officials and course helpers. We even have a volunteer diver. All you need to do is show up and race!

hi al,

i live just across the bridge from longview. i was really excited about your race until i saw on your other AOF post as if you changed the CSH class to CSR?

i'm rather new to racing but it seemed a little strange to change CSH to runabout because of already having a good number of OSY drivers? from my limited exposure to racing, other than the "A" classes CSH is the largest class in the country.

i can't seem to find a sanction (like those from apba) that spells out the race schedule. please clarify some basic info for a new guy please?

you would not have to bring it home, so Alicia would never know (god, I hope she is not reading this.........LOL!)........I will "store" it for you.........my Dawe CSR would be great for you (after the chine and deck are repaired)........you know ya wanna......

PS: sorry Al, but I cannot make it, got a back log of boats (mine and other racers) that need repaired (and painted) here at home and lack of finances!!! Just so you do not think I am just skipping this race........I will not be attending the next 2 SOA races either.......next race.......Nationals in NY....

CSH Class Option

If we have enough CSH boats, we can still run CSH at Woodland. I just tried to keep the number of classes down so that each class could get more than two heats in the schedule. Also, there is no weight or "parity" height restrictions in OSY, so that eliminates a lot of inspection issues to deal with, and you can "run what you brung" as we used to say not that long ago in APBA before the parity concerns. I don't care what fuel you run either -- we will be on the honor system. Practically ALL of the gas fuel in our area has ethanol in it now. This race is for fun and to raise a little money for some good donation program causes! Show up at Horseshoe Lake Park boatramp on Sunday morning. Registration starts at 8:00 am. 9:00 am is Driver's Meeting. We start racing at 11:00 am (plenty of time to set up your gear). Racing is from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm for five to six classes depending on who shows up -- a no pressure racing schedule...

Looks like the WCOR guy that is promoting CSR this year is not coming to play with us. We will run CSH or CSR depending on the turnout in each class on Sunday. I just tried to accommodate Daren's original wishes for a CSR class to be included in the race.

I am running my C-Mod to race against John M. My Pro motor is broken, so I am not bringing my Pro boat. Any CSH can also run with the C-Mods. It's a tight course, so the pipes may not be much of an advantage.

CSH is back on the Schedule at Woodland, WA!

Another CSR racer has made it known to me that he can't make the Woodland special event since his equipment is broken. I met the disabled boy, AJ Patnode, tonight when we set up the race course buoys with his family's help. Show some community special donation support and come on up or down to Horseshoe Lake if you want to run your CSH gear and earn an Olympic-style Medallion if you place 1st through third in class. There won't be a height checker at this race!

Race Report

Race results are posted in the AOF Forum. Thank you to all of the people who supported the special Race Against Drugs event and fund-raiser for young A.J. Patnode. Some times its good to help others, and also have some fun racing... It was our pleasure also to support the local Meth Action Team.

A big thanks to my very special wife, good friends outside the boat racing community, and all of those former racers who no longer drive and generously supported this AOF/WCOR event.

I can now appreciate all of the personal commitment, jurisdictional negotiation, press release coordination, paperwork, and knowledge that it takes to be a new race site director. Thanks to all of those of you out there that generously supported this special event with your valuable time, precious gas money, $25 race fee payment, and monetary donation to a good cause.
