bethann.....you and a few others need to realize a little something about dsr drivers and other classes as well, within stock outboard. This is something that most of us, or at least myself do for fun. I dont remember reading anything that said because I race stock outboard or because I race D runabout I need to attend x amount of races, or of course, stock outboard and dsr will die because I did not attend every single race. I dont know where this attitude developed and how it got popular but I can tell you...Its the biggest joke Ive seen or heard of in quite some time. So what If I only make a few races..or even one race...thats my decision..not yours or anyone else who is setting around waiting to make a buck on my hobby. Im interested to know if I am the only one who feels this way? I do believe in the growth of the sport and the well being of boat racing, but Im about tired of dsr being used as a scapegoat to cover up other larger and more important issues within stock racing. If your gonna kill dsr...shut your whining cry baby faces and do it already...but then I ask...what class is next

        Disappointing

        Hey Nick,

I feel I need to respond to your post.

I realize this is a hobby and respect anyone’s decision to attend or not attend an event. It is a hobby and things come up in life. However, you commented “that’s my decision..not yours or anyone else who is setting around waiting to make a buck on my hobby” I find that comment very offensive. Here are a few facts you need to consider.

The average local race cost $4,400 – 5,000. to put on. Insurance and sanction cost $2,280, the ambulance cost $1,500-1800, any park fees $0-450, porta cans, supplies ect. usually total another $500-800 dollars, not to mention the wear and tear on the clubs equipment. The total to run a race is between $4,300-$5000.

Entry fees at $25 x 80-100 entries per day = between $4000-5000 total. As you can see NO IS MAKING ANY MONEY on your DSR ride. Grass Lake,MI and Big Rapids, MI both lost money last year!

Additionally, MHRA is trying to offer you more races in your home state and more time on the water with Marathons. All of our races are at fun venues with dinners or parties; we are trying to make you want to race more with us! That is why reading you post was disappointing to me. I have refused to let MHRA drop DSR off any race schedule because I believe we can attract racers like yourself and others in the North to race with us and bring the class back to national prominence. However, reading this makes me think that maybe that is not what you are looking for.

Please do not read any animosity or anger into my response, just disappointment. I was really hoping that DSR might start to make a come back and that MHRA would be part of it.

Dean....I wasnt intending on offending any of the folks who work hard at promoting the sport. The reason I dont attend alot of races is really quite simple....I cant afford it!! I hope this helps...Nick.

            how did this happen

How did Grass Lake loose money? Sorry, but it always made good profit before. Not a complaint, but just currious. Its crazy here for the moment, people are coming up north after all. Happy Memorioal Day everyone.

              No Worries Nick

No worries Nick, I understand tough times! I really do, I just did not want you to think we were pushing you to get your $ and make some big profit. DSR has had three boats now at Constantine a few times and that is a bummer.

I really hope you can make Augusta, I will pay for your beer !

                Grass Lake

                Hey Kerry,

Grass Lake has the highest expenses of any of our races about $5,000 and unfortunatily entries have dropped drastically right at about 100. The sponsorship money you were able to pull in when you ran the race, just is not there any more. We are working on some things to get it back to profitable, but I do not see if getting back to where you had it.

                Later,
                CSH12M

                  Dean,

For the record there have been less than three DSR's at Constatine the past 2 - 3 years. It's too bad to as this is one of my favorite races to attend. You can camp, You have the races and racing family and the awesome hospitality of the Post not to mention the food, beer and party!! And some guy that picks guitar and sounds just like Hank Jr. I just can't stand to drag my stuff over there and sit on the beach and watch. It sucks!

                    I agree Gootz

                    Hey Gootz,

I agree with you totally if you can not get three confirmed here than I would pass as well.

Last year you had Haunstein, Luce and you? we were one short.

I know Haunstein is in this year, but probably not Luce?

We would need two more solid confirmed.

                    Go Wings!

As of today, I’m still coming. My crew (aka.. Dad) is still putting my baby back together after the melt down at the last race. However, he is pretty sure it will be ready. Soooo, unless we run into problems, I will be there. I’ll keep ya posted…

                                just currious

Thanks Dean, I figured nobody was in town to get the class sponsors like we used to and money is getting tight, find a charity to benifit and maybee the sponsor money will come back, it cost alot of money to put on a good race, thats the part most people do not understand. Hope all goes well in Eagle lake this weekend, not able to get away for now.
