  • Boat Racers In Alaska

I really doubt that anyone from Alaska comes on here but are there any Racers in Alaska? I live in Big Lake and want to get a Hydro out here to try and start racing back up small time. You know, take the boat out on the lakes and show off for everyone! Make them all jealus of me having the coolest boat around.

In the late 70's racing was live and well around Big Lake!
The 1978 Stock Outboard Divisionals were held at Wasila. Ric Montoya, Bob Wartinger & myself were some who attended, I won 20ssR. You sure can loose track of time with all that day light in the summer. We were testing our boats on Friday before the race, asked someone what time it was - 11pm and broad daylight!
There was a very cool boat at Big Lake then, the 145 cu. in. inboard hydro that was Chip Hanauer's first inboard ride.

Try to contact Mike Urquhart in Achorage. The Urquhart's were very invloved with the racing then.

            Thanks for the links Steve!
I had read about the canoes before but never had seen the Montoya story. That was great!
