  • What is acceptable? Jacket question.

Can a race official or someone who is certain of this please help me out. My question is what can I use if I dont get my lifejacket updated. Can I use a motocross chest protector or do I need something with certain safety specs. or requirements. I would like to know for sure what I can use and not have to worry about it being a safety concern for myself or the race officials...thanks for any input....I am gonna try and get prepared for the Mesick race and this info would get me one step closer.....Nick.

Read Page 2 of your rule book. Only the junior class must have impact/flack protection incorporated into the jacket. As long as the impact/flack jacket provides protection to the front and back of the torso it is legal, but not required to be part of the life jacket itself. Rule 3.6

Hey Nick...by my reading of the rules Merc1 is correct. Only J requires that the impact material be incorporated within the jacket. However...how much is your hide worth? I just got a new Security jacket...I hope that I never need to use the impact material but it's nice knowing it is there. So...on to better things...are you ready for Mesick?

                Impact

I believe the impact material did a wonderful job protecting Kristi in Lake Wales when the pipe drilled her in the back. It sure made me glad we have it in our jackets.

Question to the powers that be or that were at the meeting for these rules...

The impact protection outside of the life jacket for SO MOD... was this thought of a temporary rule for a year or two and then they will be required in the jacket? Or will it be left as is until the old jackets simply fade away and there is only built in impact jackets out there?
