Bob,
In the last 3-4 years, the reliability factor for the Pro motors has gone up substantially. The Rossi and VRP 125-350's can run an entire season in most cases without a major issue. A lot of the longevity depends on how close to the edge you tune them. As you know, 2 strokes make the most power running on the lean ragged edge. Getting too close to the edge can result in stuck/holed pistons. The other issue the larger (250-350) boats have is keeping a gear set in one piece. Because these motors are opposed firing twins, there is a LOT of loading on the gears when both cylinders fire. Rossi has come up with a new, larger gearbox with bigger gears to try to mitigate the issue. We only run the 125's, and have never seen a gear issue. After 2 seasons, replace bearings and seals in the L/U and we're good to go again. Please join us at the Constantine race. It's always been a good one with a lot of drivers coming in to freshen up for the Nationals in DePue the next weekend.
