  • Boat racing family welcomes another

This is an update on a story I wrote last year about an 11yr old boy in a wheelchair and his mother. It was under Jesup photos. The story left off last year with an invitation from this driver to bring the boy to the pits to meet the racers and there families. The boy Chance Lee and his mother April Lee came over to the pits and was welcomed with open arms by all. There will be a followup story in the April Propeller along with a very special photo being taken of Chance our newest APBA Member and the drivers and crewmembers. Needless to say we have a new member of our racing family so the next time you get to Jesup look for our number 1 fan Chance Lee and let him share a smile and a moment with you. Guaranteed you will be a winner for it. I would like to thank everone for making a special day for Chance. Photogirl started a Associate APBA Membership for Chance she paid for the first year and I'm picking up the tab for the second year if anyone else wants to donate contact APBA and let them know you want to contribute to Chance Lees membership in our club and Family.

Jerry, thanks for posting the update on the Lee family. We all appreciate your efforts in making Chance a member of APBA. What a great kid. Visiting with him at the Jesup race site was an important part of my trip there. Chance and his entire family are inspirational. I know he had a good time at the races. He was all smiles. What fun it was to share our fun with such a great young man. Jack

Jack, you were an important party to this if not for you giving April my name I'm not sure it would of happened. Thank you for making Chance and his mom feel welcome befor I was able to arrive. This is the kind of thing that makes boat racing so special and staying alive.

                Way to go APBA racers

Jerry - I know before you left for Jesup you were looking forward to meeting up with the Chance boy and his family per our conversation. We all want to thank you for being a true gentelman and extending your hand out to this young boy. You make APBA shine with your kindness. Thanks to all those involved in making this child a part of APBA. Job well done!!!! He will NEVER forget it.

                        Very heartwarming!

This was an incredible event. We were packing up to leave and Rick Bird came over to the truck and said "your son is a driver, I need to borrow him for a few minutes". I followed along to see what was up and was amazed at the group that had gathered around for the picture. I saw some big men with tears in their eyes, and some ladies too. I believe Jerry Davids signed his plaque and handed it to the young man, and some racers gave him t-shirts and pictures.

You could see the joy in the young man's eyes, and the racers and crews had their hearts open wide.

Thank you Rick Bird for including Joey, and Thank you racers and crews for reaffirming that the boat racing family is second to none!

Thank you Lee Family for being a part of our lives!
