Just would like to know what you guys think about testing
on a lake where a racing event is scheduled to happen very soon.
Seems there are plenty of places to test why do it at a actual race site that is ???
This was motivated as there was some testing on a new site in Fla and was wondering as to why and what others tgought.

I was badly hurt (broke my back in three places plus internal injuries) when I blew a 350 Runabout over at a race in Alexandria, LA one year. So I don't test anywhere that there is not a trained rescue crew on the water and medical personnel and an ambulance on the shore. In short I only test at races.

I think sometimes it is done this way to stir up a little interest in the area. If a few people see some fast boats running around then maybe the word will get around and bring out more spectators on race day. It's a lot cheaper than trying to put ads on TV and in the paper. I've been in business for years on nothing more than "word of mouth".

The PRO Commission and the Safety Commission dictates to capsule drivers they must get recertified with three dunks in the “trainer” every two years at considerable expense in time and money to some drivers. The same group mandates round surfaces to hydros but shut their collective eyes to pointed runabouts, and classes that are going as fast as the 500cc hydros 15 years ago when the capsule where mandated.

Have we all forgotten the number of drivers that have been injured or killed during private testing.

It is extremely foolish to even consider testing without rescue crews on the water and medical personnel with at least one fully equipped ambulance.

If the club can not afford the proper personnel then I suggest stay home!

Bill Capsule training has been revised go to APBA web site
and read new training criteria(only one properly done dunk is required) and training now end with membership renewal.
For some reason I guess the slower drivers think it is ok to test without ambulances and emt's funny thing is it's mostly Dads and there kids,I believe this is a mistake
we should protect our kids better.

I will try and make a few thing's clear.
Since Nic Thompson's accident myself and son's have never tested without ambulance's,emt's patrol boat and so on.
And to add to this testing at a upcoming site and something happens where a accident of some kind occurs
it would not be fair to all the people who have worked so hard to make this race possible to see the hosting parties cancle a race because someone didn't take the proper safety precautions. Could talk more on this but I think you all get my point.

To answer your question: I often test at a race site before the race. Here are just a few: Lake Alfred, Constantine, DePue, Pleasant Prairie, Dayton, Grass Lake, Alexandria (LA and KY), Wakefield, Jesup....

As to why: to go faster.

So you tested on the lake where the up coming title series race is going to be before you are going to race there next week great love to have you. (guess you got that 125 k pro naaaaaaa). Only ribbing Ed.
Seriously though of the sites you mentioned I believe over testing at lake Alfred is what caused us to lose that site ??

I posed this question not to anger anyone but to see what other drivers though about such a situation..Answer is as long as there is proper safety considerations have at it.
Ok with me test where you want part of a free society just like me asking what others though about it.

Pat: I still test in Lake Alfred, at two different lakes including the one we used to race on. I am told it is the noise that is the problem. My engines don't need mufflers. Eddie.
