  • Ralph DeSilva recuperating

    Ralph took a spill in the shop on Saturday and broke his left hip. I was there when it happened and we thought he just got bruised up. I got him in the house and he was hurting but ok. Later that night he began hurting pretty bad. His sister in law got him to the hospital for an x-ray and it confirmed a broken hip.

    I saw him yesterday morning nad he was in good spirits just mad as hell for the mishap.

    Yesterday afternoon he had surgery and the entire hip was replaced. I spoke with his daughter Ann the AM and the surgery went real well. The docs are going to have him up walking today. The healing time is about 90 days. He will go through a fairly intensive rehab. The docs expect him to have a full recovery as his overall health is excellent.

    Ralph is not a computer user. I'll be happy to pass any well wishes on. You can send get well wishes to his home address. His family will be checking the mail and will get anything to him.

    The address is;

    Ralph Desilva
    56 Pierce Rd
    Hiram, GA 30141

            Hey Tim

            Tell Ralph to get well soon. If he is able to make it to Jesup maybe we can take him to the Oyster Shack.

            See you in a few days.

              Best Wishes to Ralph

              Tim: See if you can get this photo to Ralph. It is not very good but I'm sure he will remember that this is the second ASR he built for me to race according to plans drafted by the late wizard, Jack Corner. This photo was taken in Hinton, WVa in 1997, the first year I won the A Stock Runabout National Title. Ralph and Bill were both there. Ralph personally remarked to my Dad after seeing me win the elimination heat that he "could not believe it." The photo still hangs in my law office and has ever since 1998.

              Be sure to ask Ralph about the first one he built for Jack for me to drive and Jack's response when Jack first saw it.

              Ralph built this boat will all hand and no power tools of course! This boat will reappear at the Ocoee Winternationals next weekend in the J Runabout class. 10 years old and going strong!

              Best wishes to Ralph. Ed Hearn.

                    Stopped in to see Ralph this morning and he looks great for just having surgery. He was up and walking already today. His only complaint was the food was not any good. What a great guy.

                          Hope he is recovering as planned...............I just wonder if he had something to do with the design of the repair parts...........Can't keep a good man down.
