  • Helmet

Hey everybody! I am getting my helmet painted and I am getting metal flakes put in it. This is prolly a stupid question, but would that be legal? It prolly is, but I'm just double checkin. Thanks

I suggest you read APBA rule book General Safety rule 3(A) (2) page V11.

Okay, I read the rule and it said that the upper 50% must be orange, etc....so does this mean it has to be solid, or can there be metal flakes in it too?

It has to look orange to a driver approaching it at 100 mph ... you are betting your life on it

          Metalflakes

If the paint you are using is simply metalflake orange (metallic) meaning the metal flakes are already mixed in the paint I think you will be okay. All that really does is make it sparkly in the sunlight, and might actually ad some more visability in case you end up in the water.

If your intentions are to paint metal flakes on the helmet, I would say you need to keep those on the bottom 50% of the helmet and keep the top half as the rule states.

I don't think you will run into much trouble at your first race, they might cut you some slack and give you a chance to fix anything needed before your next race. Mod's are a good bunch of guys who like to see everyone on the water racing and not sitting on the beach being beat.

I don't know the laws. But my point of view the brighter orange the better!
