won't this increase the chance there will be a few more badly needed DSR's out on the course?

      a bandaid??

how does this fall into the Steering Committee's future plan for stock outboard racing? This seems like a step back versus a plan to move forward..........

so, it is stated by a SORC member here that it is realized by those members that a S.T-Bolt 44 will not run at the top against the 44XS and Tohatsu, so is this going to create another parity issue?

I thought the Super T-Bolt stuff was approved last year (except for maybe use of the 44XS tower)? I have yet to see any of it on the course?

Daren, the race committee plans to alternate which mod class or classes it will run with their Stock race. Classes I have equipment for will not run all the time. I think this is unfortunate because too many racers are lazy and will just stop coming in the future rather than checking to see which classes are running each time. But, with the D Stock rules loosened up I definitely have enough parts to assemble a viable Super Thunderbolt and maybe a second motor to loan out. The fact that I don't have a 100% probability of winning every heat doesn't matter to me; I just race for the fun of it.

Until enough Tohatsus are sold, there is a need for some other motors on the course to fill in or the guys buying the Tohatsus have a pretty hard time justifying their investment. I guess their other option is to each buy 3 motors.

I seriously doubt the guys buying the Tohatsus are worried about justifying their purchase..........

Daren, Do you think it is possible that there are people that would buy them. If they felt there would be enough boats at their races to run them?

it has already been proved.........called Bass Machines.........the Toh's are selling QUITE NICELY! The issue before on buying a NEW Tohatsu was not the amount of boats that show up to a race (and that justifying the purchase of the motor), but the decision on rules, restrictions, etc for the motor in the class set forth by the appropriate commitee in the past, but that seems to have been taken care of fairly, so the motors are selling now.

I think the reason the proposed changes came along is as follows:

The old rules allowed blocks pre-1967. The problem is there there was a design change in 1964, so the new design blocks from 1964-1967 were allowed, and the 1968-1976 were not allowed even though they are identical to the 1964-1967 blocks.

We could have changed the rules to exclude the 1964-1967 blocks, but there are racers who raced those motors the past couple of years (with no competitive advantage). The only good option was to allow them all.

These changes will certainly allow more people with a greater variety of parts to start racing, and there is NOTHING bad about that.

I will propose on next years nat Meeting that we slow down all those dang Mercs and Tahotsus so I can compete and maybe win with my Thunderbolt ! Thanks Darren !! I never thought about that. Wonder if the motion will pass.....

                    Mason Motion will fail

There was never any intent to make that Super Thunderbolt more competitive than it already is.

That's what they said about 102's and 302's in 20, too Not intended to be a really competitive motor, just a "helper" motor to keep the class filled in where it is thin. Once the camel's nose is in the tent ... anything goes (just kidding)

But be clear about all of this; this year's change is no performance increase, just a technical correction of a bureaucratic oversight in the past. The blocks now allowed have the same performance as the other Super Thunderbolt blocks already allowed; hardly anything more than a serial number exclusion-inclusion issue.

same rules...just correcting some series of part numbers
