The home page says "Newest member is Ray Gemmill".
When I met Ray in the 1970's he raced CSH in Region 4 in a red decked boat he had built himself. We belonged to the same local race club - Prop Riding Outboarders of the Potomac (PROP) as the Augustines, Bob Thornton, Frank Novotny (a member here on hydroracer) and Tom Barrett.
Ray was instrumental in helping me get started racing in 1973. He let me tag along with him and his wife to a race in NJ where, literally, I got my feet wet for the first time helping others launch their boats.
The week before my first race in June 1973, I tore up my one and only prop while testing my ASH for the very first time (stupid floating stick!) and I told him I couldn't race. Ray told me to bring my boat and engine, to bring what I had, and he would get whatever else I needed. And that 's what he did, going trailer to trailer and collecting what I needed including a borrowed prop from Bunky Bowerman.
Later I learned that Ray was part of spy network my parents had set up to keep tabs on me at races that I drove to without them once I turned 16. But there was never anything bad to report, right Ray?
