Kinda like the 2 are the same!!!!

Sort of makes one want to listen to what Ron Paul has to say.
He got a whole 3 mins. in a 2hr. debate, what a joke.

Kev: touche'. Actually it was liberal Richard Nixon who signed into law the Clean Air Act in 1970 and the liberal Geo. W. Bush who just signed the recent executive order requiring that emission standards be drastically strengthened. Clinton actually signed into law the amendments to the Act in 1990 that caused the 2-cycles to stop being sold.

At least we got our J and AXS engines. Thanks again to Mercury for agreeing to make these available for racing only.

website link for Merc J engines

Here is the link to the J category page on APBA's website. Scroll down to the bottom and there is a phone # and email for Patty Malec at the APBA offices under "racing engines". She will be happy to help you out.

I like a kid with initiative! The current cost for a new Merc J with the conversion kit installed is $2295.00 plus shipping. Sometimes the cost of shipping can be saved by delivering a motor at a race. You might also have state sales tax to pay. The motors do not have a gearcase but you should be able to use the one off of your Evinrude.
Some people also harden the motor mounts to make them alittle stiffer. We did this to my neices motor by drilling holes in the rubber mounts and filling the holes with epoxy. I understand this isn't needed if you have a thrust bracket on the boat. Also, the motor will run faster if you send the powerhead to someone like Mr. Stillwell and have him go through it.
I've heard that there are slight differences in the boats for the Merc and the Evinrude, maybe in the transom height. We have always used Mercs so I'm not sure. Does anyone else have some thoughts on what might need to be done to the boat to make the switch?
I suggest that you sit down with your parents and discuss this. If you decide to order a new Merc you can call APBA headquarters at 586-773-9700. You will need to give them your APBA member number.
If a new motor isn't in the cards this year maybe you could get a rebuild done on your Evinrude. Good luck!

The Merc is just about an inch higher then the OMC so depending on how much is cut off for the OMC will depend on how to raise the transom on your boat no biggy. When I build my boats I have the transom so it just takes a 1/8 shim to make an OMC leagle height that way I can just put a on inch block and still have enough to get a Merc to clamp on with no aluminum plates or braces. The Merc has really deep clamps so there is plenty of room.
Destiny is a matter of chance,it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.
