2008 APBA National Meeting News
The 2008 APBA National Convention is fast approaching, with meetings beginning Wednesday, January 30th, through Saturday, February 2nd.
Special features abound:
Thursday (January 31) noontime is the Ladies Luncheon, as a “We Are Michigan” theme is celebrated at this annual event sponsored by Hawk Race Consultants, Ltd. – Rick Felsen. Decorations, theme, and Motown-style musical entertainment (provided by Team 20 - Tina and Jim Wilson) round out the fun atmosphere.
New News, just finalized!
Thursday (January 31) evening, from 6 PM to 10 PM, features the Night to Remember. Thanks to the APBA Historical Society, Buddy Byers and Stan Fitts, attendees will tour the Jack Roush Collection, a celebration of racing and engineering excellence. Transportation and food is all part of the deal, along with a special memento for the occasion. Attendees can sign up as you register for the convention, walk-ins (non-registered convention attendees) will be welcome with a $20 donation. The event will be limited to 300 total (fire marshall limit), with 250 tickets for convention attendees, and 50 walk-ins. Remember to sign up at registration!
Daily (Wednesday through Sunday) complimentary breakfast sponsors are English & Richards Racing, the Tate Family, Happy Go Lucky Racing, Detroit River Regatta Association, and Zooomtown Racers. Partake of the breakfast bounty at the “First Turn” area on the main Conference Level from 6:30AM to 9AM. MPR volunteers dispense the provisions and brew the tea and coffee, all with a smile!
Sack lunches will be available at reasonable cost from 11:30 AM to 1 PM in the “First Turn” area Thursday and Friday. Nightly hospitality in the “First Turn” area features beverages at popular prices.
Friday (February 1) evening features awards: the Combined Category Awards Ceremony (7 PM to 9 PM) honors national champions and deserving individuals in the outboard categories.
The annual Inboard Reception and Awards Banquet (7 PM to 10 PM) similarly honors high achievement racers, officials, and supporters.
Saturday (February 2) spotlights the Association, as a whole. First, the 104th APBA Annual Meeting culminates the business activities of the week, from 12:30 PM to 2 PM.
The APBA Reception / Cocktail Party runs from 5:30 PM to 6 PM, a warm-up lap prior to dinner.
The ABBA Banquet follows from 6PM to 10 PM, when Hall of Champions and Honor Squadron inductees are feted for accomplishments in and around APBA boat racing. Table centerpieces courtesy of Team 20 – Tina and Jim Wilson.
