    Quite the Racing Gentleman

Chuck was such a wonderful person and we were lucky that he was involved in our sport. Because he was so easy going, he was the easy to take for granite. Now that he is gone, one realizes that how invaluable an individual that he truely was. Chuck will undoubtedly enjoy the races form the "good seats" above for a very long time.

Chuck Young was one of the quiet but loyal APBA members who always volunteered his time and talents for our sport. He contined to be active in boat racing inTRORA after he stopped competing by serving as a club and region officer and inspector. He even brought his other hobby, photography, to the races. Chuck's photos were always a pleasure to view at the races. He was one of the people that made the family of boat racing so great. I'll miss him. Ed Hearn.

            I'll miss you Chuck!

I'm finding it hard to say anything more about Chuck Young. Everyone who has posted their respects to Chuck has hit every good quality of the man I have known for about 36 years. He was a wealth of knowledge when it came to his hobby interests. (And they were many). I first met Chuck and Ma Young at the Pittsburgh, TRIAD Regatta in 1971. (My rookie year and 2nd. race.) That is when the friendship started. The picture in my mind is, Chuck in the P-3 and his mother in chest high waders, squirt bottle in one hand and a plug wrench in the other. I don't know of many mother and son racing teams. But, they were the first I had seen. What a pair!
I always made sure that I took the time to sit and have a talk with Chuck when I was at the races. Our conversations weren't just about boat racing. We shared the same interest in toy train collecting and genealogy. He will always be one of the stand-outs in the racing group of friends I have known. He stuck with it right through his last season with TRORA. That's what I consider to be a true champion of the sport. I posted the thumbs up icon at the top of this page because I was in Chuck's presence with Paul Lloyd when Paul told me that the "thumbs up" meant, "Keep the throttle squeezed and your boat sunny side up!" Rest in peace, Chuck!

              Chuck

I'm sorry to hear of Chucks passing. He was a good man. I remember him helping me out when I forgot my suitcase at Warren PA. Bought a couple pair of jeans that weekend. Always good with the pictures too. Brian

On behalf of the club, I'd like to thank those of you who attended the 2-4pm services for Chuck. It was great to see Steve, Fred & Alan Eckert, Joe Cunzolo, Dave McClellan & the Fincher's again. Also there were Rick Wagner, Sr, Stu Yates, Ron & Bob Saxvik, Jack, Joan & Jon Brewster.

The club also provided a very nice flower arrangement that the family appreciated.

                  Sad News

Race in Peace my friend, race in peace.

Such a nice guy, and I bet up above he is reliving his youth with all those passed before him. Anyone who met him couldn't help but to like him. He was one of the most likeable guys around boat racing. I am sure that carried over to other areas of life as well. Boat racing lost a true gentleman, and the world did as well.

I'm really sadened to hear of Chuck's passing. We only crossed path's a few times, but he was truely a gem in the racing community. This is Chuck at Depue in '00 or '01 proudly showing off some "new" finds.
