I was so sorry to hear of Chuck's passing today. When I heard of his stroke yesterday I was extremely concerned. He was a great guy and a loyal member of our racing community. He will be sorely missed.

Always a Gentleman
I am sorry to hear about Chuck's passing as he was always willing to help at the races as well as share photo's of our great sport that we are all a part of. Boatracing has lost a true gentleman in our sport and he will be sadly missed.

Would Like to know a little more on Charlie's race'n family history......I heard him talk about his Mom's race days...........
I know he was very dedicated to the sport and worked hard to get a kneel-down display in a Pittsburg, Pa. museum.....(Carnegee?)
Gott'a make a point to check that out...
I believe he was a metal shop teacher by trade?
Thanks for the many pictures Charlie !
Will think of ya at Franklin this Spring for sure!

Very sad news today as I found out that Charlie Young passed away. Charlie was a staple in Three Rivers Ouboard Racing Association. Charlie was a racer, a board member and an Inspector for many, many years with the club. He will be missed greatly. Rest in Peace.Joe Silvestri

Sorry to hear Chuck passed away... he was a great guy and I always enjoyed talking with him. He seemed to do all he could to help out with the club, racing and racers in general. Always handing out pictures to everyone. He came up to Dunnville to help even one year. I think he was even handing out belt buckles with a racing scene on them to the Canucks that wanted them... he made the buckles from melted down broken lawn chairs I think he said! Real character! Real nice guy!Fralick Racing

Chuck Young was an inspiration to all of us in racing. He certainly loved our club which he became involved with as a little boy who went to races watching his Mother Dorothy "Dot" Young race on the Ohio River. I cannot think of a more kind person than this man. He was gracious to all whom he came in contact with. I will miss his kindness, support and friendship.
We'll miss you Mr. Young.

memories
Chuck has always been there at almost every race I can remember. If you took the time to know him you found a wonderful man. It is rare to find a man that will not speak ill of another. Chuck was that kind of guy.
Many do not know his greatest accomplishment was being a former national champion. I do not remember much of the story I am sure but he won the nats in an A alky hydro in 1953. A boat which his mother built in the living room! They both were so proud of this and I am so glad it happened for them. I believe the boat number was the P-3.
Rest in peace Chuck, you will be missed.

More memories
I remember the day Chuck told us that he had donated the P-3 and all of his racing equipment to the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum, which is part of the Senator John J. Heinz History Center, located in Pittsburgh, PA. The late Senator Heinz (of the Heinz ketchup fame) had established a regional sports museum in association with the Smithsonian to house artifacts from many of the areas sporting events. Chuck was justifiably proud that his boats and motors were to be included and placed on permanent display in the museum. His equipment would be alongside some of the most famous Pittsburgh Steelers' moments.
I don't think there is anyone who ever had an unkind word to say about Chuck. He was a true gentleman. And very generous with his photography. He always had a few "extras" of every picture to give out to the subjects.
Chuck was a familiar site at TRORA races and could always be found working in Inspection and taking pictures of everyone who passed through there. He will certainly be missed.

Sad day for all
Chuck Young has been a pillar of TRORA since the beginning. For those that ever met him, he left you with the impression of what a "true" gentleman was. When he was still racing, he was the "oldest J kid" in the pits. Always excited to get on the water and compete. I still remember him being fully dressed and ready to go several heats before his class was scheduled to run. And when he came back to the beach, always had a wrap around smile, no matter how he did on the summary sheets. When it was time for him to hang up the helmet, he turned his focus towards Inspection and of course his pictures. Every year, he would show up at the races, just to help out in whatever way he could and to be with his racing family. Every banquet, one of the first tables we all would go to was Chuck's to look at all that years pictures (for those that never attended, I'm talking about 4-5 albums full for that year only) and there was always doubles that Chuck would give to the driver.
Chuck was a great man and a true sportsman and ambassador of the sport.
He will be missed greatly but will be looking down on us at every racesite.
Race in peace.Brian 10s

There will never be another Chuck Young.
A guy who lived, ate, slept, drank boat racing. And did it all with a smile.
What a great guy who loved his sport and his club.
A sad day....he's been at the races for my entire 40 years.
RIP, Chuck.
