Did Joel Brown in Melbourne sell his trailer? Might be a good lead and was a good trailer.

Any way, I never understood why people put more money into their trailers than their rigs. I always get a good laugh at the giant trailers which open up and roll out boats which are older than Noah's arch.

They make great rolling storage sheds

I resisted for a long time going to an enclosed trailer. The main benefit is that now the boats are only out in the weather at a race. The boats stay newer longer and that alone made the purchase worth it. I have an 8.5 x 20 that gives some room to move in and the cost new was only about $500 more than my last new DSH boat.

My wife like the idea of the ramp because we can wheel the boat in on the cart and she won't be doing as much lifting. The 16' trailer would do the job, but darn it, the 24' trailer is really nice. The hardest part will be deciding whether to buy what I want or what I need.

I really appreciate all the input.

Are you trying to say something about my equipment?? My boat hasn't had it's first birthday yet
The answer for me is simple. THIEVES!!! The neighborhood we live in is "semi-rural" and kind of nice. The thieves like to patrol these areas and look for unattended toys. My neighbor lost a new four wheeler that was log chained to his porch. It seems anything left outside is fair game for the bandits. It is cheaper to buy an enclosed trailer to put all the racing stuff in and secure it in the yard than to build a new garage. Of course you have to be really creative how you lock down the trailer or that will get stolen too.

I also like the other benefits like weather protection, all the racing stuff in one place, e.t.c., but I don't think a boat would last long on an open trailer around here.

            20' seams around right

a 20 footer would be about right regaurdless or ramp or swing doors, there are pluses and minusses to every style, if it was me I would decsiede based on how much I want to spend, what I'm haulin it with, how much room I need and how much room is where I race at, other than that it's your preference, it is nice to keep your boats out of the weather and not take up garage space. The edge trailer I mentioned earlier is nice because it has all the stuff you want in a pakage deal, mostly designed for race cars. Larry Gautschalk (I know I spelled it wrong) and another Mi. racer both had the camper race combination trailers back in the late eighties, they where nice because you get your living quarters and race trailer all in one, they where expensive in the day but I am sure there are alot of used ones online, Larry's was around 28' standard toung and the other was a bigger goose neck. Good luck on your search.

              20ft'r!

I initially years ago bought a Haulamrk 16ft enclosed trailer, but decided it was not enough room, so sold it and bought a Carson Racer 20ft enclosed trailer with a beaver tail and ramp door. If you are gonna race 3 classes with 3 rigs, then the 20 is the way to go. If you race 2-3 classes with only a couple motors, than a 16 will do ya just fine. I bought both trailers empty and outfitted them myslef with boat racks (that fold down when needed) and motor racks. If you want some ideas, I can email you pictures of my 20ft'er when me and my brother were outfitting the interior.............

I would also recommend a flat top roof (that you can walk on) , just in case you want to put racks on top to haul addittional boats........

yes, the cables of the ramp door can get in the way, but you can cover them with roll bar padding when extended. Joe's winch idea is also a good one too. But, the ramp door also provides a nice place to take a nap!!!

The reason I'm buying an enclosed trailer is because of deed restrictions within my subdivision. I can't store a boat, trailer or anything like that outside of my home and my garage space is very precious to me, besides, my cars are worth more than the boat. I can rent space in a locked facility, with live in attendants for around $65-$75 per month here in the Wesley Chapel area. I think if done right, an enclosed trailer can provide a nice retreat in times of inclement weather and such, and especially if you have to endure a 12 hour day at a stock race.

                  Haulmark Trailers

When looking for an enclosed trailer I decided to get a 22 ft unit in that it allowed me to add a workbench and storage. I use a Dodge Ram 2500 with the ***mins in it. I have no problem pulling it over the Rockies with 3,000 pounds of gear in it. Done that twice so far. To make the trailer use friendly we added a 4,500 watt generator and a 12 volt battery system. The trailer has 12 v and 110v lighting along with a compressor, vacuum, and a fan which are all removale to use outside. I chose a car hauler configuration with the additional left side door to allow for better resale and flexability. The motor rack is on the right side and is built in. We can carrt 8 engines. To load the boats we built a 4 boat rolling unit that we pull into the trailer with a 12 volt power winch. To date we have put over 25,000 miles on the trailer without problems. One caution, make sure that the trailer dose not have tires made in CHINA on it. Two blowouts in the first 3 months, then changed to Goodyears.

                    extre garage

Always tried to buy or build just enough trailer. About four years ago was thinking of adding a two car garage to the house Hmmm what to do
Garage stays with house when sold (negative) large trailer leaves if I do. HMMM again well bought a 37 foot trailer that acts like a shop when stored next to my shop at home and a trailer when going to a race, many items stay with trailer all the time it's like a extra shop that moves..
Trailer trailer well only real difference with my trailer has 4 large side windows that open Great item

                      Height Question

My question is about interior height. Most 20-24 ft trailers seem to have a standard 6' 6" interior height. Has anyone ordered extra height and were glad they did? Or does anyone with a 78" interior height now wish they had another 6" to 24" inches added to the height?

I ordered mine with an extra 1' taller. I am glad I did. I can stack 4 - 4cyl boats with the top rack that pivots down. Also I have a door on each side that my motor stands swing out of.

Kevin, what type of wheels did you use there on the racks? I want to do something like that to allow the boats to roll back on the bunks. I thought of making the entire bottom rack on my floor roll out, so the runabout could be placed on and slide back in (like a drawer), but like the wheel idea you have. That is a SWEET setup you have there.........looks like to had to widen the rack for the JDS sponsons to clear??

Those are roller blade wheels and yes we did have to make the rack wider for the JDS boat. The trailer is 20' with walk on roof and just plywood on the inside that we painted. I really like the roller in the unistrut for the nose of the runabout. It makes loading it very easy with that on the front and the roller blade wheels on the back.

I guess I will be stoping by a skate shop next week for some wheels. That unistrut idea is nice! Looks like you guys spent a LOT of time fabricating and welding (nice welds, by the way!)...........
