  • Forget Minimost, time for the BSZ class!

Sorry, Dan, but racing is racing no matter what the speed, long as the drivers and spectators are having fun.

Time to reup my plea for the BSZ class!

BS = British seagull outboard. The British Seagull is a fav dingy powerplant for ragboaters. It has allowed technology to slide by and remains an archaic engine. Perfect for ragboaters who claim to detest petrol fueled stinkpots because everytime they attempt to get the cranky Britsh Seagull started they can rant about mechanical devices for the hour or so it takes to fire it up. And perfect for the stock outboard venue where out of production antiques compose a majority of the *approved* racing engines.

Z = You didn't guess? 10' Zodiac, or if the racers wish, maybe a cheaper inflatable. I'd bet Wally Mart sells a 10' blow up boat!

Okay, now we have a pig slow inflatable and a cranky British Seagull engine that probably has less horsepower than a bass boat electric trolling motor. Racing? Why sure, race them on a figure eight course! A small figure 8, like maybe the size of a football field. We could race in the town pond! Yeah, right downtown with thousands of screaming spectators cheering every crash!

Here's the deal - tillerperson does the steering. Yes, tiller! Riding mech has a stock of waterballoons and a 3/4" cpvc pipe stuffed into a pool noodle and endcapped with a Nerf basketball (see bump pole rule #27-4.8). He/she is allowed to joust opponents while racing abeam or at the crossover point. Points awarded for a direct hit on an opponents boat with a water balloon. (number aboard limited by rule #27-3.4, size limit rule #27-2.5). Points awarded for dislodging an opponent from his/her boat by using the bump pole or direct boat-to-boat impact. Swimmers allowed to reboard and continue racing. Right of way rule at the crossover? That would be the BBN rule. BBN = Biggest Brass Nads!

Ladies and gentlemen, start your British Seagull engine - if you can. Let's go racing!

I would assume that in this new class, BSZ, the consumption of alcohol while racing is MANDATORY!

Perhaps even like Cheasapeke Bay Skipjack racing where you lean over the side to refill your recently emptyed 'container' with water before tosssing it at one of your competirors.

Only if the brewmiesters kick in a wad of cash to support our fine sport of racing! Sure, we'll affix the advert stickers on the Zodiacs, and of course attempt to deplete the supply of free from the brewmeister brews.

NOTE: Rule 86-1.4 "Thou shalt not loft empty, full, or partially full containers at the competition. All containers aboard boat at start of race (numbered by Nippy Pauls) will be returned by the boat crew for recycling."

          Hi Bill
I have a mercury quicksilver hard bottom inflatable 10' w/9.9 merc. I have suggested this for a gizzer over 60 special event. Just for fun. This boat can have a 15hp motor. I would not want to run this in ruff water. The boat will go over backwards in a good stiff wind. Just for fun have had it jacked up and kick up it will fly.

That's what the rider is for! Jump up front and hold the nose down - hang over the inboard side to keep the boat somewhat level during those speedy turns - and of course, lob water balloons etc etc . . .
