  • Patrick Quigley Passing-Chief Starter

I was notified today from Norm Schaub of Pat Quiqley's passing yesterday.

Pat and Nancy have been and were part of the APBA Region 7 activities for many-many years. They supported 3 clubs, Wisconsin Grand Prix, Wisconsin Power Boat, and BSOA. If memories serves me, Pat raced CSR and DSR until an accident at one of the Menasha races. From that point on he and Nancy supported all forms of APBA racing. Nancy performing as a scoring scrib and Pat as a Chief Starter/Flag Man.

Pat Chief started, (as I know it) in every APBA Category including the Unlimited race in Milwaukee. I was the 1st turn Judge. It was Awsome.

Pat was a true professional and took the part of communicating to his racing friends through his flags. A special set of flags was given to him by the BSOA Team prior to his final retirement at the 1998 (50th Stock Outboard Nationals).

As you may review tapes of the Merc Challenge or events at Wakefield you may here the comments "15 seconds", That was Pats special call to arms to the race committee that you better be ready cause the BOYS are in the chute. Pat was always on his game.

One special treat that Pat created, if you Jumped the Gun and the race committee knew it, you did not get the Checkerd Flag, but you got his right foot boot, the signal you jumped the gun. That tradition is just now coming back as we train the youngsters.

God Bless you Pat and Nancy!

    May you RACE in PEACE!

Rest in peace Pat. My deepest condolences to Nancy and family.
I will keep fond memories, even the times I got the "BOOT"

Steve’s comments brought back fond memories from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
Pat’s booming, baritone voice stating “15 seconds” to the start. I vividly remember watching Pat’s body language when coming in for the checkered flag. He would actually fake you out sometimes. He would raise the flag up and hold it as though he was going to give you the big victory only to have him pull it back at the last second and kick out his leg letting you know you got the “boot”. We actually had a few guys barrel roll after the race when they got the boot and took their hand off the wheel in frustration.
Pat was one of the core volunteers that made Wisconsin Powerboat Racing Association, Badger State and all stock racing in Region 7 some of the best in the country at that time.
Pat will be missed by many.
