  • There are no boats in Kosovo

The one thing I know for sure after almost a whole year here is there are no boats in Kosovo. In fact I don't think there is a Albainian or Serb word for boat (ship yes, but boat no). There are 5 big resevoirs here with only one having a hydro electric power plant on it. I in fact have seen a few inflatables in the summer time and one fiberglass boat pulled up along the shore of one of the resorts, and there where some paddle boats but boating in general does not exist, period. It makes you realise how so much diferent we view things in the states, we have a whole industry revolving around recreation, here just staying warm when the power goes out every night is your main concern. The people are wonderful they just look at you funny when you talk about boating, snowmobiling, or any of our passtimes involving recipricating motors. So when you are complaining about something remember there are no boats in Kosovo.

P.S. I am now two days past when I was supposed to be out of here, wicked fog set in day after Thanksgiving.

    Well,
I’m Serbian or as you say a Serb, and there are a lot of boats in Serbia and especially in Belgrade you just don’t know where to look. Kosovo part of the Serbia is war area and I don’t think that anybody down there is up for boating at this time, they have bigger fish to fry if you know what I mean.. Just look at my photo link on the bottom of my post and look for album marked as “OLD” those are pictures from boat racing in Serbia from late 80’s.

      Good point

Yes,you are correct, but I was not able to go into other areas of Serbia, the only areas I flew over were in Kosovo, there were a few boats at the one resevoir north of Pristina where it apeared it was a resort area but other than that only a few inflatables fishing in the summer time. Now once I went outside of the border there seamed to be boats here and there, Macidonia, obviously Croatia. My point of the post was how we take for granted our luxuries, boating being one of them, most of the people there are happy to just have a roof over their head and food on the table. I will look at your link after posting this.
