Dan do you mean a flash front end? Or are they making forums in flash now too?

The thing I dislike about flash sites is they are usually set for a specific resolution... I do cad work and graphics work... both my computers run high resolutions. Flash sites usually display so small they are annoying to read. Then when I'm in the garage on the old laptop surfing while watching glue dry it doesn't have the resolution to display them correctly. html and php sites usually adjust to suit whatever your monitor can view.

Oh one more note... I dunno about the USA, but up here, half of the population doesn't even have access to high speed internet and is forced to use dial up. You have to live in a city to get high speed.

But sites do need to update... a revamped site if maintained brings more people usually.

I think as soon as you make this site all flash you are going to loose half your members.. The new version is really going to bog down the computers that most people have.. This site is fine how it is now.. I have used both fast internet and Dialup and the only thing that hinders the dialup right now are the movies on the home page..

Hey Bill sorry to hear you are having so much trouble but the truth is I have not done anything different yet so I am not sure why you are having a problem at this time. I did add a very small QuickTime movie to the front page that does not auto play so this should not be a real big deal.

During the course of my day I log onto the site using several different low end Windows base PC's and I never have a problem.

I have mention this before and I dont think people are paying attention but there is no law saying you must log into the front page of HR Net.

Make the link below your book mark for HR Net and you should never have a problem again. This will take you directly to the forums and bypass all the front page content.

          HR Net Forums

Good luck and please let me know how it works out for you. I try to make everyone happy but you know how that goes

            Aha!

So the Quicktime addition is why I get a popup saying I need to upgrade my quicktime viewer to watch it, and then sez sorry, but the upgrade isn't available on the Quicktime website. Geeze Louise (shoots self in foot)

Hey Bill what version of Windows are you using I think QuickTime 7 will only work with Windows 2000 & XP anything older then Win 2000 and your out of luck. Are you running a older version of Windows like 98 ?

Dan, I'm running Windows 2000 v5 SP4 at work and XP SP2 on the desktop at home, and I get the Quicktime message that Bill mentioned too. Now the laptop has a newer version of XP, and I don't get the Quicktime message - but Sunday night the movie did autoplay - had the volume turned up and I almost backwashed my beer

                    Dan-

The QuickTime movie doesn't autoplay but it does seem to download the entire movie every time I go to the home page - takes something like 10-15 secs at 100 kb/sec (work DSL) for the page to load.

                      Dan.
I get the same massage that Bill gets. I'm running Windows XP hooked to the cable system. Seems like the movie downloads but dosen't play.

Hi Leeann thanks for the heads up, even with real time QuickTime Streaming there would be a few seconds of download so I dont think folks should panic. As mention in a earlier post everyone has the option to just bypass the front page all together. Book mark the forums and enjoy skip the front page

                            Stay The Same

Why upgrade ? Cost you more money to run the site, which you need more of to keep it running the way it is. You make everyone update computers and your donations will surley drop off.

Why fix it if it ain't broke ?

Dan . While I trust you and your site, I am against HAVING to download anything to view any site. It just goes against my nature

                                What is my box running?

Duh - like I turn the power switch on and it fires up. Methinks Windoze XP or whatever HP delivers with their computers. This one is about 1 1/2 years old and I gotta twin HP that's a shade older. Howevah, I don't use any Windoze/Microsnot programs to browse or do word processing. Only Microsnot program I use is Excell because I need that to download the motorcycle coaching schedules from NVCC.

Netscape for browsing but I'm thinking Firefox. AOL is wrecking Netscape. For typing my murder and mayhem fiction novels I use Word Perfect 6.1. I have WP 11 but it sucketh. Actually I like Word Perfect 5.1 best, but this new and improved *barf* Windoze doesn't allow the option of booting in DOS.

                                Yes, I'm a luddite . . .
