Prop Box Ideas

My son has decided he has enough props now that a prop box is in order for the race boat trailer. He wants to take the project on himself and I'm all for that minus running the table saw I told him that I would ask all you vetren racers for your input. What works, what doesn't. Can you give some ideas? Size? Material? Holding fixtures? Hinge type? Ect.

Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks!

What I do is lay the props on a piece of cardboard to give me the size and location of the props. Then build a box according to what I need I used melamine sides, a plywood back 1/2" and carriage bolts thru the back sticking up into the box. I then slip a piece of plastic tubing over the portion of the bolt that will be in the hub of the prop, then put a washer and wingnut to hold it in place. Also put a piece of foam or deep carpet on the bottom of the box for the props to sit on.

Buy a handgun briefcase, they are perfect and usually cost less than the materials would to build one.

I used to have a prop box in that trailer. The middle section of the trailer had a lock on it, and I hung a long board with dowel rods on it, with foam for the prop to be snugly pushed against, drill a hole in the dowel, put a rubber washer over it, cotter pin it. Worked well as long as you remember to not misplace the cotterpin.

If not an option since the remodel, build a box with the dowels, or thread4ed rod for the props. Let Adam's imagination run wild, and let him design it himself ! If he needs a hand stop on over.

I use a rifle case. I got one at walmart for about $15.00. It has egg crate foam and will hold 10 props easy. George Scott
