No, but "we", OPEC, Canada and Venezuela together can. It's not a person or POTUS, it's futures prices and who's buying them plus supply and demand.
Last I heard OPEC is keeping production levels high so the price of crude drops far enough to make it unprofitable for US production.
The one thing I learned from selling gas for about 15 years (out of 60 that our shop did), it always goes up faster than it goes down.

Correct usual they would have stop pumping by now and prices go up as reserves go down but speculation is they won't to remind US who controls cheap production of gas, I hope it dosent kill the stock market.

Yea, and when someone stops hitting you in the head with a hammer it feels a lot better too.... Until you realize that your head still hurts like hell...

$2.39/9 low in Orlando Fl as of yesterday, still dropping but variable around town.
OPEC is in oil survival mode, their lack of economic diversification is a major issue.

In 1968, a station on Lake City Way in Seattle had gas for either 15 or 17 cents, I forget, and quart jars of re-refined oil for 25 cents. We would hear that the Europeans were paying 40-some cents, and thought, how awful. Of course, the money was worth a lot more, and in constant dollars this wouldn't be as impressive, but still . . . .

In Chicago in the '50's 10 gallons for a buck, for Shell in the heart of the city. It was my uncle station. He also gave way a silver dollar with a fill-up at Christmas time.

$1.80 St louis area. If these prices hold through the race season. What a boon it will be for boat racing.
