they were dr otts raceing out of long island. dick odea use to do there motors i think.

I enjoy watching it sometimes, it's entertaining. I've fished for tuna with a friend off Cape Cod though we didn't go off shore as far as they did. We also got skunked though they were breaking all around us but always 1/4 to 1/3 mile away. We fished the surface with spreader rigs. All I got to say is, you think we bass fisherman spend money on equipment? Tuna fishing for amateurs is a millionaires hobby. A used reel is 3k, new one 5 to 6 or more. Spreader rig is $25 to 50. And the boat with at least two outboards, often more, is off the charts. Takes a few guys to get two rigs out so they need a driver. Guess who got picked. Try driving a 30 footer in 6' waves at idle speed in a straight line with nothing to aim at (with a beer in your hand of course). Not easy! Finally found a shrimp boat to aim at and then did OK. We had fun though we didn't catch anything. Had several whales around us. It was fun to watch them from the birds nest tower. Hope to get to do it again sometime.
