  • New owner of JDS hydroplanes

As of this morning I acquired the rights to JDS (Jon Stern) hydroplanes. I have a little setup to do, but soon kits will be available for C, C-MOD, D, D-MOD, FE, 250, & 350 hydro. Once I'm up and running I will be building complete boats too. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me via Hydroracer or JDS Facebook page.

      Jds

      Hi,
I believe it is "STEEN", not Stern.
Good luck with the venture. My son raced against his old 20SSH boat this weekend. Lot is angles in that boat.

I know, I was writing that on my phone. Even Jon saw it and didn't say anything. I have been friends with Jon for probably 20 years. I've built a few boats with him and also a few of his kits. The only boat I will race is a JDS, so I truly believe in the product. I am really excited to take on his boats and keeping the quality of his name.

My name is Jon Peterson; I live in Eastern Washington (Pasco) with my two boys who are 6 and 4. I’ve either raced or been involved in racing my whole life. I started racing J when I was 9, OSY at 15, D-Stock and D-mod at 16, and now I run D-mod and FEH. In the early 2000’s I “apprenticed” under Jon Steen (a very close friend for roughly twenty years). He taught me about boat building and even some motor work. With building boats alongside Jon, I also built a handful of boats with my dad, Steve Peterson; two or three of which are JDS kit boats.

I took a short break from racing and joined the Army, after four years and a fifteen month tour in Iraq I decided to get out of active duty to be with my family. I moved back to eastern Washington from Georgia and started to get active in racing again. It wasn’t until this last week after some discussion and decision making that Jon Steen and I decided that I would take over the rights to JDS hydroplanes. Jon will still have an active role in his boats and design process; it will just be my “baby” to run (if that makes sense). With that said, there are a few things that Jon and I are working on before I start to offer JDS CNC kits and boats. I will make more posts as the progress advances, but if you have any questions feel free to contact me on Hydroracer, my email: jpeterson_80@yahoo.com, or via phone at 509-312-0887. I am very excited and looking forward to this new adventure, thank you to everyone who has offered their support, especially my dad Steve Peterson and Jeff Akers.

                Boats

Even though I saw the back end of JDS boats for way to many years I offer my support. Anybody want to hear some funny Steve and Jon Peterson stories (nothing bad) send me a pvt message. Dave AKA 2US

A New Boat Seller in the Great NW

I hope this new business opportunity works well for you, Jon. Having been a proud owner of a custom-specification, JDS OSY-400/CSH hull I know how exceptional Jon Steen's hull designs turn in the corners and "fly" efficiently in the straightaways with the right motor setup and prop. It's good to hear that the JDS line will still be available for racers. The PRO and Mod hulls are also great designs that are fast and sharp looking with that signature Steen nose shape.

                  Best Regards,
                  Al

                    Good news Jon

With all the interest in 302SS we are going to need builders to keep the boat supply up. Good luck and let us know if you need any advice or help.
