  • Father's Day

Enjoyed my Fathers day and 71st Birthday, with a great gift from my son Philip. Above the Delaware river just north of Lambertville where many of you have raced.

      Happy birthday!

I see that plane fly over my house all the time. From van-zants air field. Hope you had a great day.

Who's plane is that? I used to work for Holloway Engineering where we overhauled/restored radial aircraft engines from all over the world.

It's a Steerman that was used as a 2nd World War primary trainer. Belongs to a local husband and wife in Bucks County PA. The engine is a Continental 7 cylinder restored. Runs like a top. Top speed about 85 - 90 mph. spattering oil all the time. Apparently typical !

I am very familiar with the Stearman because I worked in this shop right next to one for 2 years. Perfectly restored to original condition. You can see a picture of it at radialengine.com. Obviously the Pa radial didn't come out of our shop because no engine leaves our shop if it has a leak. It is a common belief that radials leak oil. They do not if assembled correctly. All of ours were run for 5 hours prior tp leaving and if a leak was found it was fixed during the run in no matter what we had to take apart to fix it. It was a very interesting job and I enjoyed it very much and learned a lot.
