Stepping forward to be a leader is not easy for most people particularly in a volunteer organization. We all express our opinions about what we expect from our leaders. But, when asked to come forward and lead or accept responsibility we are very reluctant to do so, partially to avoid the extra work but more often out of fear that we won't be able to "do the job". This is extremely frustrating to those who do lead and on whom most of the jobs fall back on the same few. Eventually those same few get understandbly exhausted and exasperated and out of that frustration quit. I have seen this occur in every volunteer organization that I've been exposed to, from community organization to hobby and other interest associations. Hopefully, after this kind of loss, the organization finds new life and new people emerge, from within the group, that assume responsibility. After a bit of fumbling along and learning most groups eventually succeed anew or die. This seems to be the life cycle of human groups that totally rely on volunteers. And so it is with our racing clubs. So, before your club finds itself with just a few people filling all the leadership jobs, step forward and be a leader. Become a referee, scorer, race director, etc. In the meantime say thanks to those who do these, often thankless, jobs.

DVORA has some great things going on. How about an hour from the members? Greg & Shawn could use it.
Rich, Team Tower is growing, 6 boats, 5 drivers & Captian Jim. You in? Could use a few minutes.Mark 55P

My goals in the racing world are the same I use for everyday life: treat others as I wish to be treated, and always mind my p's and q's. Unless it's the finals at the Nationals, I may stray a bit from my morals to achieve the task at hand! Haha...Future J dad!
