It is with heavy heart I must report the passing of Mardell Swartz known in our part of the country as the First Lady of Boat Racing. Until this year you would always see Mardell involved in our races one way or another. She served many times in AOF and NBRA as secretary/treasurer. She was the same position for many years in the ODA. One thing you could always count on with Mardell was that every penny would be counted and every rule would be followed wherever she was at. I am very happy in the fact that last September at the Quincy race a large group of us went to see her for the last time, I know she enjoyed it. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 at the Zender Robinson Stormer Cookson funeral home in Quincy, Il with the funeral at 2 on Saturday.

So Sad
Mardell was a fixture for so many years, every race i went to she was there with encouraging words. She was such a nice lady. I truly miss her in the pits. I had the pleasure of seeing her one last time at the Quincy IL race this 2012 Season. The pits are forever changed now that she is gone.
Rest in Peace Mardell, you will be missed.Dave Mason

What a loss! This lady did more for our sport than anyone else I can think of. She did everything, with a strong hand and a great attitude, she lead us all to having fun in racing and doing so in a totally fair manor. I will miss her. My condolences to Steve and family. God's speed Mardell. Jack

How many people out there would you trust with all your money? I'm going to wager "not that many"........ Mardell was so trustworthy that all of us knew we never had to worry about it. They don't make 'em like her anymore. She did so much for us over the years because she loved boat racing and more importantly all of "us".........Godspeed, Mardell.

Wow we have lost a lady that has been in the racing community since I was a little kid just starting. She would be the first to let you know when you was wrong and the first to give you a hug after that. She was very dedicated to the sport and her part of it .She spent many many hours working very hard for the sport we all love you will be missed.Thoughts and prayers to the family during these hard times.

Mardell
I will miss her, the racing crowd will miss her. Can't recall a race site that wasn't there with a smile and a great sense of humor. In her role as secretary of NBRA, she was strictly business and kept the data to support her decisions. She was my best friend! My condolences to Steve and the family.B BURT
