  • Sad News from Region 4

Some of you Racers may remember my Dad, Cooter Tyson, some may not, but he loved boat racing as much as I did, he is at his last race course this morning as we lost him after a long time battle of sickness for several months. He was my inspiration and mentor for years when I was campaigning in the APBA out of region 4, I as well as my family are going to miss him , but he is now in a better place and is already looking for another heat of 350 hydro to run-----Fred Tyson

Please click on the following link to review and celebrate his life.

      Fred,

Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of Cooter. I do remember him quite well, he and Randy and Hassell had quite a lot of crazy discussions and arguments back in the day as you remember..... You could never forget Cooter's distinctive laughter, made you laugh just hearing it. I remember all of us back in the old days at Hinton, when the race was on Labor Day weekend.

        We're so sorry..........

        Freddie and family,
That is indeed sad news for us all. Cooter was a legend in his time and we were so fortunate in Region 4 to have had him as our own. Boat racing is a poorer sport without his presence!

          Cooter

I remember your dad well Fred, he called me not too many years ago . He was helping a guy with a Mod boat and wanted to talk to me about it as he had allways ran Pro. In 1979 i bought a 250 Bowson from you, i went to his house to pick it up , we talked for a very long time . I have a little story he told me about you i will tell sometime.

Sorry to hear ! Last time I saw him I went to pick up a hot rod motor he had done some work on . Bet I sat there for six hours talking about boat racing. We still got some Yamatos we got from him 350 and 500 or you Freddy not quite sure. Cooter was an awesome person ! Man if only I knew half the stuff he knew about an outboard motor. He will surely be missed.

              Cooter

Freddy, Your dad use to call me right regular to talk junk and boat racing. I will miss his visits, him to my house and me to his. Sorry he didn't get to have his goat farm like he wanted. He will be missed.

Freddy,so sorry to hear about your dad.
I remember many times as a kid trying to sleep in the pits and listening to Cooter talk/laugh through the night.
If only we could be half as cool as Cooter.
He was one of a kind and will be missed but not forgotten.

                      cooter

Sorry to hear about your father. A very good friend Bobby Blackley introduced Cooter to me at Camden NC. We had a lively discussion about how to make a D merc go really fast. He was quite a guy.
