  • Are you kidding me?

Just recieved my latest propeller magazine, wow 6 pages total not sure what the cost is to send 6 pages out and call it a magazine, but based on the leadership at apba and the great crowne project i am not supprised of the continued waste of time money and (little effort) used to send out the latest propeller news letter ( i can not bring myself to call this a magazine).
Not only was this a total waste of resources but i received 4 of them as usual. Why does anyone need 4 copies and at what cost? Dear who ever is in charge LET'S ONLY MAIL 1 TO AN ADDRESS, it is our money your wasting!!!!
The contuined waste of money continues, if you really care please speak up the region 6 boy's club is firmly entrenched and change will not happen until those of us that really care demand change and cost cutting controls be implimented starting with the crowne project and this poor excuss of a magazine!

          From John Peeters' thread

          Propeller Magazine:
          Size: 8 ½”x11”; 40 pages
          Color: Full/Full
          Paper: 70# Gloss Book
Other: Mail Prep, NCOA, CASS Certify SORY, Imprint, Address, Bundle and Deliver to Bulk Mail USPS Facility

          Qty. 3500 = $5000
          Approximate Bulk-Rate Postage = $1550
Qty. 10,000 = $8500 (6500 extra to pass out at local races)
          Approximate Bulk-Rate Postage = $1550

Rough time to design each newsletter (not including writing the articles) is an hour + per page, meaning this 40 page book quoted above, will take no less than 40 hours to design.

          Directly associated costs for Propeller:
          Printing: $5000
          Postage: $1550
          Design: $800
          Gross: $7350
Less: $1500 ??, Advertising Space at a rate of $300 per full page.
          Total: $5850

Using the above pricing from John Peeters:

So if it's $5850 per 3500 quantity: 5850/3500= $1.67 per mag ($2.10 per mag if the $1500 in advertising is taken out of the equation). And that's a 40page issue. So say it's a $1.67 per 40 page mag, that's 0.4 cents per page. So if we have a 6 page nationals propeller magazine it costs 24 cents to send out 3500 issues.......................Of course i'm not counting the cost of our lovely APBA employees who put the propeller magazine together, but you get the picture.

Really now we have money to send out a SUPPLEMENT when we are telling the members we can not afford to send out a monthly "quality magazine" just another example of watefull spending! If this is bashing then so be it!

Problem is in printing 3500 mags for $5,850..the more you print, the less each mag costs. Most of the cost is in the Press set-up, So 4000 magazine are probably say 6,200 and change. I bet for a 6 page Suppliment magazine they paid a pretty penny.
Like I said in previous Propeller posts.. All the old ones had a cost on them. So send them to races and let FANS buy issues and that will help pay for the printing. I have been to only a couple of title series races with a serious amount of people. Kids and there parents asking for autographs and always looking for the drivers hero cards that some of the pro drivers have. The magazines would sell like crazy if they were there. I am 100% confident about it

I though the same thing and then realized that it wasn't a regular issue, just a Nationals update.

A little late since I already knew the results, but appreciated nonetheless!

Just what are your SOLUTIONS..Bash, Bash, Bash...w/o any postive feedback or suggestions...oh I know its Crown's Fault, It's APBA's Fault, It's THAT guy's fault, just WTH do you want?? I for one appreciated the Supplement and will also gladly pay $50/yr for a monthly print copy. I hope you get some PM's w/Addresses so the "wasted $$" will at least be utilized by someone who appreciates the supplement. BTW have you considered just not becoming a member of APBA? Then all your complaints would be moot!..Thats it for me (for now)

                      Are you kidding me???

Howard: How many votes did you garner in the BOD election? Sutherland received more and he wasn't even running a write-in campaign. You might want to consider that before posting again.

I believe that all folks are within their "rights" to express their opinions here regardless of how many votes they garnered in an election. Let's be real here. Attack what someone says but let's not attack one another. At least make an attempt to be civil. Jack
