  • Bad couple of days for old AOF racers

Rusty Bonin of Port Neches, TX passed away 9/15. He was rbengines here on HydroRacer. http://www.hydroracer.net/forums/member.php?u=1258 Rusty was tough in the 102 Mod class. He had the only two expansion chamber Yamato 102 I ever saw that ran really well.

Also, Mark Zachry of Monroe, LA passed away this morning. Mark and his brother Steven used to race B-1 and 25XS and maybe some other classes that I don't remember right now. Steven and his wife Jeanette did a lot work getting races in Louisiana back in the '90s.

    David:

Was Mark related to Phil Zachry? I knew Phil quite well back in the late 60's and 70's and enjoyed visiting with him at the races. Think he ran C Alky Hydro and possibly C Service?

Bill, Mark was one of Phil's 3 sons who all participated in our wonderful sport of boat racing. I will miss him as many will and many prayers for his family.

My condolences to both Rusty's and Mark's families. Both great people who contributed greatly to our sport. They will be most definately missed. It was a pleasure to have raced with and worked with both of these folks. God bless them! Jack

To Steven: Sorry for your loss

Steven sold me my first 25XS engine at a race in Pineville... I'm hooked on them, and have owned a half-dozen of them now. Steven also fabricated some really cool boat cowlings that looked like a quarter-midget sprint car cowl.

Sorry to hear about your brother, Steven, my prayers are with you.

Sorry to hear his. Rusty was a great and tough driver and was always more than competitive and the Zacharys was always fun to pit with. They helped unselfishly
and made AOF a sucess! They both will be missed!

Last I saw Rusty was at the lone star club reunion 4-5 years back.
