Left to right: White perch hook (some people - mostly Yankees - call them crappie), 2nd from left is a fairly large worm hook (for bass fishing with a big plastic worm), next is the hook I use when I'm after BIG catfish (we call 'em Op down here but some folks - again, usually Yankees - call them flatheads). Anyone care to guess what we're going after with the hook on the far right?

If it was a 10-0 circle hook = drum. If same hook with barb squished flat = night fishing for drum.

YOU can stick YOUR hand in a hole in muddy water where you don't have a clue what's in the hole but I'm not! I've never done that. In fact, I don't know anyone that's done that (that I know of). My luck I'd find a hole with a blue (instead of a flathead) or worse - a loggerhead. That's not for me.

gators - when me'n Milady arrived in Carolina I told her we needed to pick up a couple dead chickens from the market, lace them with big honking hooks, and go up Brices Creek to troll for gators. Sez She: "There aren't any alligators here!"

Less than a week later our local paper - above the fold front page story - log truck smacked a gator on 70 East not to far from our house. BIG gator. Oh sweetie, check this out. EEK!

As for noodling catfish - forget that. Limb lining is the way to go. This spring a guy flew in to the airport where I work - his job, all travel and expenses plus a fat paycheck, go limb line cats on the Roanoke River. The catfish tissue would be tested to see if the paper plant upstream was creating pollution. And he got PAID to catch them! Geeze Louise, I could use a job like that . . .

                      Bill,

I love fishing limb lines. That guy that gets paid to do it has the kind of job I'd like to have!

Unfortunatley I know a couple of those guys. That deal is pretty staged, one of them teaches my son in HS. He is a real jackass to the kids. If you ever come down this way I will put you in some real "fishing holes". You might like it.

                              Bryan,

Y'all must not have as many cotton mouths and alligators in the water up there as we have down here.

Picture taken yesterday not far from where we duck hunt and are alligator hunting (we have to stay on the Louisiana side of the lake) by Texas Parks and Wildlife Inland Fisheries District 3A - Marshall.
