I guess its my turn again! I'll have to borrow something really fast.

Stock Outboard is all about a level playing field.

True parity is one motor per class.

It's RACING, not just another boat ride!

I never knew this man. I had heard his name was "Chet". At the 1957 Nationals in Worchester, Massachusetts, "BUCK" was killed in CSH. After this accident, the rule was changed for 16 boat heats to 12 boat heats.

The race was run a a major rain storm, just an FYI.

I used to borrow all kinds of stuff....From A Stock DeSilva's, to run my Quincy "A" on, to a Sid Craft DSH at Essex, Maryland, 1967, to a 36 runabout. Seldom, when I borrowed something, did I not get a trophy. In fact, I usually won with borrowed equipment.

              Admiral Wierd

[QUOTE=Ron Hill;205306]I never knew this man. I had heard his name was "Chet". At the 1957 Nationals in Worchester, Massachusetts, "BUCK" was killed in CSH. After this accident, the rule was changed for 16 boat heats to 12 boat heats.

Buck was from Region 4. There was a georgeous perpetual trophy made out of silver that has been awarded to the winner of CSH at the fall Camden, NC race for decades.

Many great names are scribed on that trophy.........Tom Barrett aka Admiral Wierd and proud father of Michael Barrett won the trophy many times in his day. Barrett convinced us all that Buck's ashes were built into the trophy. That's his story and he has stuck to it for decades!!

              The Admiral is a trip!!

                Dick Davidson

The 25 SS gearcase housing was legalized for "C" as there were no gearcase housings around. I helped get them legalized, little did I know that the BIG SKEG was well worth its size, as I spung my CU out the first time I ran a short skeg.

Dick Davidson was the only one I ever knew who won a Nationals with a short skeg, 25 housing on a C. He ran like a 6 1/4 X 13 Radice prop on a Terrill Hydro. He did not "Back in" to this win.

He ran an old Wizard powerhead with none flat top pistons, too!

                  1967 at Essex, Maryland

At the 1967 Nationals the Berghauer's had the fastest three C Hydros in the race. They placed 1,2 and 3. As I recall, in the second heat, Dewey was way out front, coasting, he looked back, realized if Deny pasted him, Deny would win. So, Dewey slowed down and let Deny by.

I asked Dewey why he did that, he said, "Deny owns all the stuff and does all the work. He deserved the win, not me"

Ron Hill: Is "Buck McClung" AKA William McClung?? If so, he was killed in Worcester in 1957 in DSH.

                      You Are Right!

In those days they ran J Runabout, then A Runabout.....It rained so hard they cancelled Sunday's racing after the runabout ran.

We headed back to California, Monday morning. Chet "BUCK" was the C Hydro defending Champion but was killed in DSH...This accident led to the 12 boats per heat rule!

When I wonin 1977 it was with a short skeg.It was with a 2 blade prop. The next year went with a 3 blade and the short skeg would't work.I think to many blades in the water at the same time lifted the back ofback of the boat off the water.

-good question for next time I see either of you 2,
So why was the deep skeg not popular under a B 'popper'
                          No big difference in speed?

If you recall, I was busy at the '77 Nationals. I know you gave my father-in-law "Static" about my props...

I ran one CSH race in 1977, and turned over before I got to the first turn, I quit while I was behind.

As far as "Padded blocks", the only "Padded Block" I ever saw came from lon Stevens.

We really need to consult Charlie Srang and Edgar Rose on this...

                              padded Merc C blocks

I have a padded 30 cuber block in my collection and had another at one time.
It says Thunderbolt on the side instead of Turbo Four like the standard block.
                              So they do exist!
