      Philadelphia

Everyone is getting prepared. We are to be on the edge of the storm set to arrive late afternoon early evening. They are talking 70-90 MPH winds and 8-10 inches of rain.

There isn't any water/bread/eggs anywhere!! Just like Lulu said, calm right now but we're ready for the beating that's coming our way.

Mandatory evacuation out of Norfolk, VA. We are 180 miles west in the mountains of Nelson County. Cloudy and breezy.

The calm before the storm is in day 2 now, since we feed the birds we notice they have been quiet & would guess they are hunkering down. There's been more than usual small plane traffic, to points west it would seem. There's incredibly hi wind coming from the TV & its pretty hot. God willing it will turn out to be the hype storm of the season. Since the storm is coming along the shore instead of in off the water there might not be so much storm surge above North Carolina but it is predicted to be hi tide here in Jersey with a new moon as well so shouldn't be underestimated. Its been downgraded to cat 1 & will probably degrade to tropical storm status by mid day. The forward speed is 14mph & its made landfall. The water it does cover is not going to be any warmer than it came from so all 3 factors point to a weakening as it goes. Good Luck to the more southeast folks who will see the most of it.

Flooding, I used to live in Sea Bright NJ, as a young man that was a cool place to be. It is however a low area. When the moon is right & the tide comes up it can flood heavily on a windless sunny day. Add a storm & you can go swimming down some streets. Where my rental was the peninsula's about 150 yards across, the Atlantic on the east & Shrewsbury River west. There's a rock wall on the east side that breaks the waves but often seen are several ton rocks rolled across the street & up against houses, all kinds of other debris too. When the river & ocean meet you can practically see it rise. Sandy hook Bay faces the northeast & acts as a huge funnel to feed the river so more notorious there is the far more often seen Nor'easter storm. Usually winds of 40-60 & 3 days of heavy rain. The occasional hurricane is bad enough but the nor'easter is locally the most dreaded storm.

Glad to see so many unaffected (so far).

Couple hundred thousand people without electricity.

Storm weakend to cat. 1 before is came ashore < that's good. Cat. 1 is still a lot more than a gentle breeze though! 85 mph winds will do a lot of damage.

Annapolis MD, 12:00. Light rain started a little after 10. Off and on moderate rain to drizzle with an occasional breezy gust, maybe 20 mph; dies down to nothing a few minutes later.

Tornado warnings to our south and east, but no warning here yet.

In mid Jersey its drizzling steady now but no wind yet, We're semi prepared, just hope its a blow-over of over-blown proportions for all in its path.
