We mount on the helmet so you can get other views like looking back, side to side and so on. We will be posting on youtube the vids we shot at Hillsdale IL last weekend. Go Pro's are great!

I run a D stock hydro...and mount it on the dash looking thru the windshield....You get great sounds from the motor, and it is fun to watch...you go wow...does the boat really get thrown around like that? David
Too bad you already bought a camera.
I recommend the Drift HD. It has many more features than the GoPro. One big advantage the Drift has, is a rotatable lens. It allows you to mount the camera in nearly any position. So you don't have to mount the camera on the very top of your helmet.
Some refs in region 10 do not allow you to put a go pro on your helmet.....the added weight and drag might cause further injury...just a thought. I would never put one on my helmet running DSH. David.
How much does one of the drift hd's cost? Just curious
As with any helmet camera, price varies a lot. Depending on where you buy it, and what optional gizmos come with the package. The best apples to apples comparison I can find puts the GoPro 1080p at $300. The Drift HD 1080p at $370.

Dave says "the added weight and drag might cause further injury". I often wonder how this has been proved and able to be disallowed by the ref with no legitimate proof of the fact. Seems every other form of motorsports allows then, including the motorcross guys, which bounce and beat around, go faster and crash more than boat racers and never sustain any injuries from the helmet cams??
I picked up the GoPro Hero HD Motorsports brand new off of FleaBay for $248 shipped and a 16GB class 6 SDHC card for ~$32.
As far as mounting on the helmet goes, I think the concern is with the drag of the camera through the water (or anything else protruding from from your helmet) and the additional strain it's going to put on your neck. But hey, it's your neck

I always thought growing up would be cool, I was wrong!
The other day GG laughed at me because I take more pills a day than she does....
so where are you going to mount it? wouldn't drilling holes in a helmet weaken it? just asking. i agree with you about the drag. a head bouncing along the water catches the cam and it acts like a sea anchor.
Not drilling holes in helmet or mounting camera on helmet at all.
I'm going to move it around the boat until I find a spot where I can video like this..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYqt_vKeFpk
Yes, headed to Wilson about noon

They had one up in Thompson, CT race this year. As for drag if you fell out of the boat? It would be ripped off within seconds from the impact of the water. Worse thing would be you would have to by a new one. My question is when was it legal to attach anything to your helmet? or is it just a unwritten rule.
