  • Lake DePue update

I like to keep the racing community up to date on the cleanup of the DePue Superfund site , which includes the restoration of Lake DePue. As I have asked before , go to the Village of DePue web site and get a copy of the petition , sign it and return it. The signed petitions of all boat racers from coast to coast , regardless of category , all who have raced on Lake DePue , would be a welcome addition to the thousands already collected. I have read many threads on Hydroracer regarding finding new race sites , I would think we should also support a race site and town like DePue that has always been there when Pro , stock or mod has needed a race site.

Below is a link to the most recent newspaper article concerning the cleanup of the Village of DePue and Lake DePue.

    Latest news

Here is the latest news article link concerning the cleanup of the Depue Superfund site , which possibly includes the restoration of Lake DePue.
The most fustrating aspect of this is that DePue has been a superfund site since 1995 and what has been done besides moving dirt around , drilling monitoring wells and conducting expensive studies then taking 2 or 3 years to review the results and formulate a plan. At a informational meeting conducted a couple years ago it was painfully clear that any work done on Lake DePue will be minimal at best. It seems , after reading the article , that Mrs Falco from the EPA is not very concerned with the taxpayers of DePue than she is protecting the site owners - CBS Viacom and ExxonMobil.

          Village of DePue battles on

Here is the latest update in the ongoing battle that the Village of DePue is fighting.

          http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/...AD0&p_docnum=8

I have also included an article on ExxonMobil and their latest profits , this is not revenue but profits. The article includes other information on their spending and lobbying and etc etc. From a public relations standpoint I dont understand why they continue to fight the cleanup. I think the answer is once they pay to clean up DePue it opens the door to all the disasters that they have caused. In this country big buisness will always win and the little guy gets stepped on. And DePue is no doubt the little guy !!!!!

There are two government agencies that should be eliminated as they now have no reason to exist but stop all progress in the US. These are the EPA and The Army Core of Engineers. They have so much power they have halted all progress and have caused many companies to close of move to other countries. The clean up of the Gulf oil spill could have been taken care of much sooner if it was not for these two agencies wanted to do impact studies. They are another reason that the US Government has become too large and have too much power. It will be up the next President elect and congress to put a stop to this excessive power given to these two. Just my opinion. Bob N-96

I could not agree more. The pattern with the Superfund site has been the same. Two years to conduct a study , then one year to review the results of that study , and then another year to formulate any action plan before any , if any , work is done. The article in my original post was based on a study paid for by ExxonMobil and the CBS group , so what do you think the results were going to say , exactly what there were told they were to say.

Do you really think the Goverment agencies want to get anything finished fast ,if they did then some would have nothing to do and be out of a well paying, benifit loaded, high pension career.
As far as big business goes---better not get to political on this sight or else.

Bob ya sounding like a Republican lololol.

                  The latest CAG meeting

Here is a news story on the latest meeting concerning the cleanup of the Village of DePue and Lake DePue. Like most citizens , past and present , I also cant believe how slow this process has been. 16 years later and not much progress has people frustrated and wondering how much money has been wasted and how much longer it will take.

                    New story

The Bureau County Republican , the local newspaper , is doing a two-part story from the owners of the site side of the story. Here is part one.

                      Just signed the petition:

Don't turn your back on "Small town America"!
Fulfill your promises, you reaped the financial benefits, then you left your envoirnmental time bomb behind.
The time has come now, because "now", the world is watching.

Thank you Jeff and I challange all racers who have raced a boat at Lake DePue to do the same. It certainly cant hurt !!!!!!!! I will even make it easy by including the direct link to the petition at the end of this post. If there was any doubt how dedicated the Village of DePue is and has been to boat racing , not just the PRO division but stock and mod also , look no futher than the blood , sweat and tears that went into having the races this year.

                          Part 2

Here is the 2nd in a multi-part series from the owners of the site.

Maybe being a longtime resident of DePue and someone who still has family and friends there , I find alot to argue with in this 2nd part of this series. For Mr Cepko to say the process takes a while is in my mind a massive understatement. The " PROCESS " is going on 18 years. The second thing that bothers me is the statement that they did not create the mess. While I do agree with that , I cant feel sorry from one buisness who purchases other buisness without first knowing what they are buying. I find it hard to feel sorry for them.
