    hi all,

the tax season is almost over. going thru the trash bag of receipts a client dropped off last night and wants his taxes done by today. sounds like there is a b mod in this for me. been in the office since 4 am and i want to throw out a question for everyone this morning..... april 15th was a friday this year but taxes are due today the 18th, why? i'll give you a hint, it's a holiday only celebrated in washington, dc. anyone know what holiday it is?

i'll keep tabs on the answers and see who is an the ball. no fair googling the answer.

Emancipation Day, celebrated with a Fed holiday on Friday and under the IRS rules Tax Day is defer-ed for Fed holidays and weekends so Monday the 18th is the official deadline.

No prob for me, filed early, got my refund, spent it!

      you da man

      bill,

you a correct. i'll bet your refund against mine if you ask 50 people today no more than 5 will know the answer, if that. i've gotten answers like, good friday and easter. this will happen next year too since the 15th is a saturday, 16th is a sunday, so the hoilday will be monday and taxes will be due on tuesday in 2012.

now to get back to my trash bag of receipts. there will be a b mod in the bottom of the bag, the client just doesn't know it yet.

        Emancipation Day

        It is celebrated in a few other places;
        Mississippi
In Columbus, Mississippi, Emancipation Day is celebrated on May 8, known locally as "Eight o' May". As in other southern states, the local celebration commemorates the date in 1865 when African Americans in eastern Mississippi learned of their freedom.
        Texas
        Main article: Juneteenth
In Texas, Emancipation Day is celebrated on June 19. It commemorates the announcement in Texas of the abolition of slavery made on that day in 1865. It is commonly known as Juneteenth.
        Paducah, Kentucky
Emancipation Day is celebrated on August 8 in Paducan and McCracken County, Kentucky. According to the Paducah Sun newspaper, this is the anniversary of the day slaves in this region learned of their freedom.
        Puerto Rico
The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico celebrates Emancipation Day, an official holiday, on March 22.
        U.S. Virgin Islands
The United States Virgin Islands celebrates Emancipation Day, an official holiday, on July 3. It commemorates the abolition of slavery by Danish Governor Peter von Scholten on July 3, 1848.
        Florida
The state of Florida observes emancipation in an unofficial commemoration on May 20. In the capital, Tallahassee, Civil War reenactors playing the part of Major General Edward McCook and other union soldiers act out the speech General McCook gave from the steps of the Knott House on May 20, 1865.[2] This was the first reading of the Emancipation Proclamation in Florida.

            the day is winding down

well i thought all would be over by now but there are some people who like to wait until the last minute to file their taxes. oh well it pays for racing. like i say.... failure to plan on your part does not make it an emergency on mine.

i did not know about the other states and their emancipation holidays. very interesting and thanks for sharing.

well alvin the denton race is getting closer and i hope to have all the returns done by then.
looks like i will have an 11th hour efile to do for a guy in georgia. he does this every year. and no he is not a racer.
