    Meaning

[QUOTE=mdaspit;167685]Not quite sure what you mean with the first paragraph Dave, but with the second paragraph, I think you are saying that I may have too much time on my hands, and I should occupy myself with something more productive...You make a good point.
    QUOTE]

Meant that there are still a good amount of people who don't look at HR or any other internet media for information concerning boat racing. I think we are a couple generations away from having everyone online.

As for the meeting reference, I sat in for an hour of a stock outboard meeting at the ABPA National Meeting one time when I was a MOD commisioner. I left more confused than I already am, and that is hard to believe.

This is what I mean. When you view HR through the Portal page, the newer threads float to the top, and the older threads continue to sink to the bottom, untill they fall off the page, sometimes never to be heard from again.

Now, one could say, that's the perfect self regulating, balanced, and most effecient model of a market that has ideal equilibrium.

It is uninterupted capitalism. I admit that instead of monetary exchange it is conversational exchange, But, the idea is still valid.

If a thread has what the marketplace wants, then it floats to the top, with repeated responses to the thread. If on the other hand, a thread sinks off the page? Then obviously it does not have the juice to keep the marketplace involved in the exchange and therefore sinks, position by position, until it is never seen again...Our own little version of Chapter 11, thereby making room in the market place for yet one more "Entrepenuer".

      Perfection.

Until, someone in some governmental position of power, decides that it is in the interest of the "good of the masses" that equall opportunity is not as "just" as equal outcome, and that a thread with not enough on its own to keep it afloat should be given a more equitable status, and deems that it should be (in a way) subsidized to stay on the portal page.

      Then what?

Well, what happens then is that the thread in question with not enough juice on its own, while still staying afloat, isn't read or responded to anyway...It turns into what one may call a "Zombie Thread".

So what you may ask? well the problem with that is that it now is occupying valuable real estate and not paying its fair share to the community any longer, and worse, is now making it even more difficult for a new entrepenuer to make his way to the top.

Also makes for some moral hazard, in so much as any number of other threads may request, or even demand that they be given like status, and on and on untill we have a manipulated system that eventually sucks the life out of the community...

      Somewhat like a parasite...

My apologies, wrong meltdown book. Looks like a good read.

Add- a quote from a review, which is very similar to Kevin Phillp's book, (in which he blames both parties) everyone is to blame...

Partisan readers beware: regardless of your political affiliation, you will discover that your party shares in the blame for the mess we're in. It is best to check your party affiliation at the door before you read this book. But read it!
