  • New race boat . . .

Not nearly as fast as my previous hydroplanes, but this wood epoxy beach cat weighs about 160# fully rigged and it should fly. Stitch & Glue hulls which means no frames, just 4mm okume. Soon as Captain Pam & crew figure out how to run this boat I'll rig it with a trapeze. Most everything on the boat I made - including the double blocks for mainsheet and boom vang (kicking strap if you're a Brit), the wood mast & boom (birds mouth construction), the tramp (mesh thingy between the hulls), and the sails!

I love the look of okume with just plain clear coat on it. So much richer looking than paint.

        Nice Cat!!

Beautiful Cat!! The lines remind me of a Prindle that we used to race around on Burt Lake with. Do you have any idea if this is an original design, or are the lines borrowed from a Prindle?? Who cares, though. Nice boat. I bet it's fast.

the smallest EZ Loader made. I modified it with a cradle for the cat. It is light enough to use as a cart - might have to change tires or drop air pressure to roll it on the sand though.

Built from plans, sort of . . .

A Richard Woods design, "Pixie". It can be quickly disassembled and car topped, but the trailer tow is much easier. Cat is a shade over 14' long, and has a few plan deviations. I added 2' to the mast height and designed the sails to fit the new sail plan.

You are so funny, Chris. Sure you didn't mean "target boat"?

                      Craftsman?

Nah, just getting better at hiding my mistakes. Hokeyhydro motto: Hammer to fit. File to shape. Paint to hide!

Sails are sewn with zig-zag stitches. One person who viewed my sail construction commented< "Ya know, Bill, zig-zag refers to the stitch pattern, NOT the path of travel." Hey, give me a break! It's tough horsing a huge wad of sail cloth through a dinky portable Singer!

However, I do like my rudders. Plan called for barn door rudders = ugly. I built cedar strip rudders, draw knife shaped to an elliptical planform and an NACA 0012 airfoil. WEST resin and 6oz glass cloth on the finished rudders, and they are kinda pretty . . .
