  • Dihydrogen Monoxide

This chemical is a universal solvent used extensively in manufacturing and cleaning and is mixed with some cleaning products. It is reported frequently that some has died from ingesting this chemical. This chemical has been found in large quantities in lakes and rivers.

EPA has taken no action to limit the use of this chemical or to protect our lakes from this chemical. I understand a petition was circulated in a small community to ban this chemical but only 2000 signatures were gathered. We have in the past found this chemical in some racing lower units, but have not typically found this chemical in the Bass Machines lower units. We carefully searched for damage from this chemical in the Tohatsu cooling system but have not found any significant damage from this chemical.

Anyone interested in learning more about this dangerous chemical should read the below site.

you said that youve found it in some racing lower units? is this something found in oils as well?
Which way was the shiny side supposed to go? Up?

LARGE amounts in Bud Lite. A beer so impotent if one submitted Bud Lite for a BAC sample it wouldn't even get you arrested.

          in the 70's......

If my memory serves me right (and that could be debated) I seem to remember this chemical that went just by the "initials" listed, being sold and used widely as a "rubbing" compound, for use in not only relieving the aches and pains of arthritis and associated problems, but in some cases "cures" were being claimed with treatment of this chemical. In its bottled form that I saw it was clear and looked just like a bottle of water. I had a 80 year old neighbor that used it for quite a while and claimed much good effects from its use. He also lived to the age of 90.

          ADD:

As Emily Latilla used to day on SNL, "NEVER MIND". The chemical I was thinking off was DSMO, which is also a solvent, and still used for treatment of aches and pains of arthritis and other ills.

                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dihydrogen_monoxide_hoax
The dihydrogen monoxide hoax involves the use of an unfamiliar name for water ("dihydrogen monoxide"), then listing some negative effects of water and asking individuals to help control the seemingly dangerous substance.

dihydrogen monoxide is THE number one greenhouse gas. It causes more global warming than all the other greenhouse gases combined.

I have even heard of alky racers using it as a doping agent in fuel.

I do not know why the EPA is not working to reduce emissions of this dangerous product emitted from so many sources.

I first heard this gag from Neil Boortz about 10 years ago and have punked many of my environmentalist activist friends on it through the years.

Now I have a website reference to back me up.

                      What and EPA gag

This gag has been around some time, but I recently stumbled onto the referenced site and nearly laughed myself silly. I think I will sumbit the site with my next import approval for the Tohatsu.

                        Bill Van;

The substance you are thinking of was DMSO, it is really a different kettle of fish from Dihydrogen Monoxide ! It smells like Garlic, my Dad used it in the past to help with Back spasums !

Wow, I bet the Dihydrogen Monoxide would be bad in a lower unit !

Bud Light has Alcohol in it ?????????

                          Bud Light

Bud Light has lots of Dihydrogen Monoxide, probably about 92% Dihydrogen Monoxide.

Happy to entertain you guys anytime.

HOH or H2O is apparently very damaging to a Bass Lower unit, particularly if the unit is required to run at least 1/2 inch in the liquid and is also very damaging to radios used in Pro Outboards.

                            Miss the fun, guys! Eddie

Actually, running the Bass Lower Unit too deep in HOH is not damaging to the unit, but can be damaging to the operator. Our Lower Unit does not like a lot of HOH and tries to reject being submurged in HOH. I think I will stop there before I get submurged in something worse than HOH.
                              All in fun,
