  • Farewell Daniel 137N Clickner

I have received the sad news that Danny Clickner now races with the Lord. He took his final checkered flag around 7:30 this morning. Danny had raced for over 60 years and was a major supporter of boat racing and putting kids on the water.
Thank you Danny for all the years of wonderful friendship. You were an outstanding neighbor, sponsor, and member of our family! We will always cherish our memories of you.

Sibling Rivalry Racing Team will continue to proudly fly the 137N "Team Clickner" colors!!

Jeanette,...Don't hesitate for a second to call on your racing family. We are here for you. We'll see you in a few weeks.

    Our heartfelt love,
Russ, Annette, Jay, Joe, Amy, & Pete

For those of you who don't know

Danny owned a furniture store for some years. His father owned a mattress manufacturing company in the real upstate New York, not Kingston, not Poughkipsie, but way up in Watertown and owned a beautiful house in Cape Vincent NY (Home of the Gamey Black Bass). Danny belonged to the Fishers Landing Racing Club which hosted a huge boat race back in the day, called the Thousand Island Marathon, a one hundred mile race on the St. Lawrence River whose participants included the likes of Fred Miller, Craig Dewald, Danny Clickner, Hunter Grimes II, and many others.

Danny had an opportunity to travel with the USA Ski Jumping team to Europe as a young man and conquered ski jumping. As the story goes.......his vision even as a young man was not the greatest and there is a fair amount of skill/timing required for the ski jump. Someone would stand at the end of the jump and give Danny a little encouragement as he neared the end of the 60 or 75 meter launching pad the spotter would yell "JUMP!", and so he did something that many of us will never experience.

I had the pleasure of working with Dan Clickner and Bob Hayes for nearly a year after we sold our family business. I managed our small recycling company our family maintained and we did a little boat building during the day. The late Bob Hayes and Danny Clickner would show up religiously each day at our recently converted boat shop to work on any number of projects. We repaired 4 boats that year one was a B-Zoats ASH that belonged to Abbey Pond that should have been a complete loss. We built Dan a new A Runabout, a 20SSH for my brother, and an ASH for my brother-in-law.

I enjoyed many lunches at the Brownville diner with this completely incompatable duo. But every morning before 9:00 no matter what the weather Dan made the 30 mile drive from Cape Vincent and Bob wheeled in from across town to start the coffee and ruffle each others feathers.

Danny drove his own truck to Wakefield Michigan in 1998 to accompany me and my Brother. The reason he drove was to make sure that we had enough room to get Joe Guyette's Furnel Flyer back from the west coast. A week in Wakefield and Dn was up at 5:00 am each morning banging on our truck cap, he was ready to go for the day. (5 comes early in Wakefield). Danny met Team Scott at Wakefield and became a mainstay in Region 1 and Region 2.

Danny was an unassuming humble man quietly promoting boat racing by helping young racers. Many times you weren't even aware that he was supporting someone. He was quiet and steady. Our sport will truly miss Danny Clickner. He was just a good guy.

Danny had much more meaningful stuff....but this is just a quick snap shot....and a Camel filterless (error Pal Mall filterless)

Dan will be very much missed. I always knew where to go and get that first coffee of the morning.

I didn't know Danny until about 5 years ago when he asked me to build a CSR for him. As it turned out, the boat was for Jason Thompson to drive for him. Since then Jason has done an excellent job representing "Team Clickner". Danny was very proud of his team and thanked me often for my part in his generous deed. Most of all, Danny was a good man, both inside and outside our circle. He will be missed and not forgotten. RIP Danny.
Jeanette, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Stock Outboard is all about a level playing field.

True parity is one motor per class.

It's RACING, not just another boat ride!
