  • Janet Stager

    I, like many of us here, take time out to search for others from our past with the help of Facebook. It's always a small victory when you connect, or when a name from the past finds you.
    Today, for some reason, I was searching for a friend that I knew went through some troubled times in the past, but was strong enough to pull through with the help of her children. Something led me on a quest for Janet............The last time I we met, was at a funeral of another close friend about 9 years ago in Toronto. He had just passed suddenly, and was a very close friend and competior during my boat racing days. I remember taking Roy's passing quite hard that sad day, mourning both for him, and thinking of the young family he left behind.
    Roy and I had sat down to share stories and reminisce just two weeks before he passed. We sat for an hour or two speaking of the past and sharing laughs and speaking of races and racers from our past before we parted.
    On the day of Roy's funeral, I remember thinking how lucky I was to be able to have that time together alone to share what was most important to us in our younger years. I wept openly and hard for Roy that day.........I still have a soft spot in my heart for him, and probably always will.
    That same day, another face from the past came to me, a lovely lady named Janet Stager was there to share in my grief, and hear my story of being with Roy again after all the years, just 2 weeks before. I remember her saying to me "What a gift!" as we hugged the tears away. She was another friend from my racing past......Her husband Joe raced 500cc hydroplanes with us for many years.

    Janet made me realalize today, that our meeting that sad day, was a gift as well. I just wish I had reconnected with her earlier to thank her. God Speed Janet Stager, I will not forget you!

      Jeff;

      I understand and share your greif over "lost " ones. I have been away from Boat racing for 20+ years, last year started to re-connect with it and was shocked at how many friends had passed !

      I have just aquired my first boat in 20 years (500cc Mod H), first race will be in 2 weeks ! Should be quite a ride !
