Indy 500 today. I hear Jim Nabors is tan, rested, and ready to make his triumphant singing return to the speedway.

No wonder Indy Car Racing is fading. Single file restarts and the only excitment is wondering if someone is going to run out of gas with ten laps to go. Jeez.
The only excitment was watching Ashley Judd run up and down pit row in her sun dress!!
Time for some real racing, the Coke 600 NASCAR race is starting!
I can't pronounce half of the driver's names nor I have even heard of them before. Former Dictator Tony George is the one responsible for the current state of the Indy Car series.
What with names like Bubba, Bobby and Davey, I suppose it is a lot simpler to just watch Nascar. I know the cautions that seem to pop up whenever a racer is starting to dominate make it more 'fair' are 'fun' (?) as well.
I still like Indy. I think it's the cars and the tradition that I like. Something about those high winding engines that still turns me on. Just sayin',

BTW, I may be a little older then some of you and remember not only the Tony George fiasco, but also CART Pulled their stunt and threatend to boycott the 500 if they did not get their way. So when did it start to fall apart, many choices.
I thought the problems with indy started when they left USAC....
The race was a bit of a sleeper. Though it did get more exiting just after the halfway point.
I will say I cant recall seeing so many black flag driver infractions given out at indy before. It made me think of NASCAR and what it has become....
Open wheel racing is more exiting to me, be it on a 3/8 mile dirt track, supper speedway or F1 road course.

Open wheel cars make more noise too ))
What the heck is that push to pass anyway ? Come on...
I love Indy Car style racing too, but it can get as boring as those taxicabs with numbers.
Anyone catch the blowover accident ? If that did not get your blood pumping you need to go watch Tricycle racing at the local Fairgrounds on founders day.

I can only echo your statement about 3/8 dirt oval. Seen a few races at the old Ascot facility......
I think the push to pass maybe from video games, and the drivers names remind me of taxi cab drivers names in big cities. World of Outlaws was cool along with the 600. Thank God form recording, then I can catch it in the middle of the night. The old Indy roadsters were very neat in there day.
