The real head of the Berghauer boat racing dynasty passed away today. Fondly known as Grandma B, Orella Berghauer went to heaven at 7:00 am, May 18, 2010, 18 years to the day that we lost Grandpa Berghauer.
Grandma B. was the mother of Jan, Denis, Duane, Dee, Jaye and Jill. Denny, Dewey and Dee are multi-national champions and Jan (Kargus), Denis, Dewey all had next generation boat racers who went on to race and win national championships. Krysti (Kargus) Allen and her husband Don Allen brought on the 3rd generation of racers with Donny Allen winning multi-national championship as well. If you watch little Nick Jenkins you know he will surely be the 4th generation to race and win championships. None of this would have happened if it were not for Grandma B. She had a wonderful life of 93 years spending many decades traveling around the country to boat races starting in the 1950’s. You could still see grandma’s smile at Burlington, WI up to a couple years ago. Above all Grandma will be remembered for her smile which was always contagious. A celebration of Grandma’s life is being arranged and will be posted when finalized for those interested.
