What a lose
I did not know Skipper long. I first met Skipper at the Trenton,Mi. race when we pitted next to him and Vicky. I new as soon as I was introduced to him he was a gentleman and had been around the sport for some time. We talked much that weekend and the stories he had stored in his memory of the sport were amazing. He had seen and done much and was still on the go at 90. In fact Vicky and him were leaving Trenton that weekend and driving clear across America to go the nationals on the west cost. No boats or racers in tow, they were just going because that was what they enjoyed the most, boat racing.
You will be missed Skipper. R.I.P.

Skipper Smith,
It was a true honor and pleasure to be your friend. I very much enjoyed racing for you and your mentoring along the way. If all men could be as good as you, Satin, himself, would be unemployed. Most men could try for a lifetime and only be a fraction of the goodness you had within you. Thank for for giving us all a goal.
Much love,

I am glad that we got to see Skipper at our Alexandria race last summer. He sure loved the sport.
My deepest sympathy,

I am very saddened by the news of skipper passing. I am very happy I got to meet skipper, he was the nicest guy you'll ever meet, and was fortunate enough to race for him in a few of this boats. My heart goes out to Vicky, Matt, their whole race team and family.

Vicky & Family
Steve just informed me that heaven gained another star with Skipper's passing...I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that we both love you and have you in our thoughts. If we could physically be there for you we would. Please know we are here whenever or wherever you need us, so don't hesitate to lean on your extended family. I will miss checking in with him at the races as seeing you both was always a highlight for me. However, I know that he will be watching over us all, as always, and that gives me some comfort and I hope you as well.
Love you always-
Julie Johnson

Vicki & Matt,
So sorry to hear of Skipper's passing. I was standing right next to Mike when you told him. Even among all of our friends at the meeting, I felt no embarassment to shed a tear as we toasted in his honor. He was a special man and I am very fortunate to have known him. Love and condolences from our family to yours.John Runne

Stock Outboard is all about a level playing field.
True parity is one motor per class.
It's RACING, not just another boat ride!

Skipper Smith
I wrote this all out yesterday and sent it somewhere into cyberspace, so here goes, again.....
I would like to thank everyone for their caring about my father, Skipper. He was a dedicated boat racer since he started hanging out with his older brother at races, at age 10. When he was 16, he played in the 100 peice maremba band at the Chicago World's Fair. He skipped one of the maremba band practices in Chicago to go, by bus, to a boat race he had heard about in the area. Skipper actually raced for only a short time, but we have a 2nd place trophy he won (made of real metal) for competing in the 18 h.p. class--not sure of the year or the location. I wasn't born yet.
I am so glad Skipper had the opportunity to be active in racing in his later years. We have enjoyed the travel and the comradery of all our huge extended boat racing family. He enjoyed watching our boats run, no matter the running order, and we thank all the drivers who made that possible for him.
There will be a MEMORIAL SERVICE for Skipper in our back yard on Friday, March 12, at 630PM. That's 1 1/2 hours after the Stock Winter Nationals conclude for that day. I hope many of you will be able to make it here for the service. I live about 20 minutes from the Ocoee race site.
My ADDRESS is 320 W. Michigan St., Orlando, FL, 32806. PHONE 407-650-8388-home; 407-492-7873-cell.
If any of you have pictures of Skipper, please snail mail or e-mail them to me at Racegirl78F@aol.com. A friend of mine is going to make a slide show.
Skipper was such a kind-hearted soul. I MISS HIM SO MUCH. I feel lost without him. He passed peacefully in his sleep and is racing in Heaven with those who have gone before him.
Thanks again for all the kind thoughts and gestures. It is all appreciated.
