  • Dave Kargus update

Just wanted to give everyone an update on Dave.

As you may know Dave had a laryngectomy several weeks back to remove his cancer of the throat. Therefore Dave is unable to speak. He has moved into the 21 century and is giving texting a try. His "new" cell phone number so that anyone can "text" him is... 920-570-1837. Dave would love to hear from all of you. Send him a quick note just to say hi.

His cancer results after the laryngectomy were very shocking to all of us. The cancer has moved to the kidney, liver, lungs, spine & spleen.

Dave is still fighting and is in good spirits.

Drop him a quick note and please include him in your thought and prayers.

      Dave Bio

Quick bio on Dave Kargus for the younger Hydroracers. He is a second generation stock outboard driver from a huge boat racing family. Our dad started racing in 1950 and our Mom’s family, the Berghauers, started not long after. He is a brother-in-law to Don Allen and an uncle to Donny, Margaret, Kathleen, Monica and Thomas Allen. Dave drove hydros but specialized in runabouts. His first race was in 1976 when he was 12 years old. He started out with a B-Sid Craft in ASR as he only weighted 90 lbs soaking wet. Dave went on to race ASR, ASH and 25SSR through the early 1990’s and the Merc Challenge Series driving the 99W. We were known as the Nine Team back then with 9W, 99W and 999W boats on the trailer. Dave was always very competitive and won numerous Wisconsin High Point titles and was also the Wisconsin Powerboat Racing Association Commodore. He also claims a National Championship in Merc-Cubs which I don’t think will ever make it into the record books. After hanging up the Gentex life jacket Dave bought a pleasure boat and enjoyed boating with his family although it was never fast enough. A common boat racer problem.
Send him a guestbook message on caringbridge.org or a text message (920) 570-1837 if you know Dave and send him one if you don’t. He now has internet on his Blackberry with Hydroracer added to the Favorites. Dave is inspired by others and is/always has been a people person.
Please send your prayers in his direction as well.
Thank you from Dave, Jill, Brian, Amy and our entire family.

Stock Outboard is all about a level playing field.

True parity is one motor per class.

It's RACING, not just another boat ride!

I haven't seen Dave in many years.

Sure, Dave kicked butt as a runabout driver!

But what what I remember most is his huge smile and how nice he always was to me.

            Dave, you rock!
