When my wife left me, and took my dog, I was really broken hearted. So does a broken heart count as an injury? She left because I was always off to the races and she didn`t like racing. Gee,...I still really miss that dog.

Kyle, that is from being thrashed around from the inboard ride. That thing was way more wild than your CSH

                Been there!

I've had three on one knee and two on the other. All arthoscopic and drove myself home from the hospital each time. I have no more cartilage in either so probably looking at replacement next. Had a hip replaced 3 years ago and wish I had done it sooner.
All damage was done in either gymnastics or off a motorcycle. When I was 24I damaged a knee enough for a Doc to schedule repair of a torn tendon. He had a family emergency that postponed it over a weekend. Worked the hell out of the knee over the weekend and talked him out of operating Monday morning. Four weeks later made a World championship team and competed in Bulgaria with no problem. Just made a few adjustments to my routines. Probably not the smartest move but I have no regrets.
I really enjoy boat racing, but can't kneel for obvious reasons. That's why I can only run laydown now.
Best of luck and don't be scared to get it fixed.

I'm just laughing at myself. I musta looked pretty funny. Your comment was taken in the best context, as always.

Speaking of knees, I have a lot of knee pain pushing my lawn mower up the hill in my front yard. But in a race boat I have very little problem. Unless, I'm in the boat for nearly an hour. Nice thing about Top O'...the pit area has a nice beach. So you can just roll out of the boat and into the water after racing the marathon. Aaaauuuggghhh!

                    25

In my 25 years of existence, I've managed to eliminate almost all of the cartilage in both of my knees. I'd like to thank soccer, wrestling, baseball, hockey, running, mountain biking (and crashing), and CSR.

Yeah, my left knee, but I think it is more from playing hockey from about age 5 until 40 something and getting in front of too many slapshots.

But what really bothers me off-and-on is my left foot, because in 1970 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin the water was rough and my Sid-Craft and I went different directions and somehow my foot got tangled up with the flywheel of a 9,000 rpm or so Quincy Flathead. Then about 10 years later that foot got in front of one of those previously mentioned slapshots. The doctor that did the x-ray told me that he counted 17 fractures in small bones that had been broken in the earlier incident. I hadn't even gone to a doctor in 1970, I didn't even know that I had broke anything.

When I blew over in a 350 Runabout in 1982 and broke my back in three places the doctor told me it would bother me when I got old. I guess I'm not old as it doesn't bother me at all today.

When I broke my forearm in 4 places (snowmobile) I could forecast the weather for years; but now it is ok.

Sternum (sandlot football), ribs, and fingers (boat racing), toes, (running); There are others too but I'd hate to have my insurance company see this and find out about the real me. They might think I'm accident prone idiot (and they would be correct in that assumption).

And as of right now I have run 400 miles since the first of the year and next up, this coming Sunday, April 19, I'm going to wrap ace bandages on my bad knee and foot and run a Marathon, 26.2 miles on foot, not the Top 'O in a runabout, although I want to to that too someday. But the Top 'O is will be the subject of a different post as I'll need a lot of advice. I expect a lot of aches and pains from that adventure too.

After the marathon it will be back to boatracing to get ready for Depue on Memorial Weekend.

But as Dan says: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming WOO HOO what a ride!"

The week we starting talking about knee problems, i have to go out and sprain my left one playing basketball! Hopefully I'll be able to kneel in 3 weeks at mossyrock!

Maybe i should just stick to Golf during racing season, LOL

I can't help but notice how many BDOBR's (Broken Down Old Boat Racers) have knee problems AND hearing problems. Too late to do anything about either except to say, "****, I had fun"!

Now all the new hydros call for the driver to lay on his belly on top of some VERY SPECIAL BODY PARTS.

I hope the next generation of boat racers don't complain of associated problems or there won't be another generation!!!!

All joking aside, Do you belly-floppers wear a cup?? Seems to me that would be a wise decision.

Tim, good luck in your first big foot race tomorrow. Wish I could be there to get you cranked up.
BRF doesn't make participation so difficult

i am one of the lucky ones. 57 years of racing in stock, mod and pro and no knee problems. comment from my heart doctor when he saw a picture of my hydro was "jesus christ, is that you in that thing!!!". "if id known this is what you were doing i would have told you no." cant tell tell the doctors everything can we?
best wishes to all boat racers for a successful race season in 09.

My knee is swollen. Of course I know that I am going to have surgery - June 1st if I can stand to wait that long.

If you can take Aleve along with the Vicodin, try that. I'm taking Aleve (buy stock in the company that makes Aleve - I'm taking a lot of it! ) at work and Hydrocodone at home. Knee still hurts a lot but isn't totally unbearable.
