All forms of print are having a very difficult time. Paper and ink costs have skyrocketed, advertising revenue has dropped massively.
Newspapers and magazines only solution is to cut costs by firing production staff and going with freelancers for content. If quality of content goes down and subscriptions start dropping it is a certain death spiral.
14 of the 20 largest markets have lost a newspaper in the last 5 years. More are expected to fold.
