  • Team Clickner needs prayers

Dan Clickner is in the intensive care unit of the Zephyrhills Florida hospital.
It seems Dan has suffered a heart attack as well as some other health set backs.
Dan and Jeanette came down from New York to visit our family for a month and go to some region 5 races. Jeanette is staying at Mom's place now which is a couple miles from the hospital. Their family will be flying in over the next couple of days.
For those not familiar with Dan, he started racing in 1944 and continues to be an avid supporter of boat racing. Please feel free to leave a message here for Dan, Jeanette and the family and we will print them off and read them to him at the hospital.
We will continue to update on his condition as we learn more.

That picture is priceless Dean. I will print it and take it to the hospital with the other posts.
Jeanette really appreciates the kind words and prayers.
Dan was a little better today and his children are with him at the hospital as I type this.

                      Hey Steve,
The racer in the picture is a young Danny 137-N Clickner. Dan started racing in the 1000 Islands area in 1944. Dan is one of the St. Lawrencer River Marathon Veterans. Dan came out of racing retirement around 1995 when he went to Sault Ste. Marie Canada and bought the Team Robinson CSR, CSH, motors, trailer, e.t.c. Dan and Jeanette have spent the last 15 years traveling the North East and Ontario Canada circuit. They are also famous for getting kids started in racing and keeping a few adults outfitted as well. They went to the Nationals in Bakersfield in the 90's with their J driver. Dan and Jeanette are the ones that teamed up with Brian Hendrick, Spencer Utman, Jay Thompson and Ron Waterson to get my son Joey to Whitney Point last year for the Nationals. They have been longtime "family" to us as well as to many other racers.
Dan and Jeanette always traveled with enough food and coffee to feed whoever was hungry at the races.

Jeanette is at the hospital with the kids right now but I will ask her for some better history in the morning.

                          Get well Dan

Danny spent a winter with Bob Hayes and me building and repairing boats before I moved to Albany. We built the jig I still use, some coc pit side repair clamps, built his A Runabout, rebuilt his C Runabout and repaired his A Hydro. He raced the A one time then hired drivers for it, the hydro was strickly for J drivers and he raced CSR 1/2 dozen times that season before retiring in 2001. He helped a great number of kids start and stay in racing over the years. He has been an APBA member since the 40's.

We drank a lot of coffee together and I think he smoked a couple filterless cigarettes...good luck Dan.... we are pulling for you.

                            My Dan story

Russ...print this out for Dan and he'll jump outta bed and come after me for reminding him. Dan used to travel to races with my father occasionally.Dan spent most of the time on the road chewing his finger nails which coulda had something to do with the way pop drove. Dan studied and chewed til each finger was about ready to bleed. My father tried and tried to talk him into quitting to no avail. After one trip my father told Dan he had an idea which he was sure would help him stop chewing his nails. Afew weeks later Dan and pop got together for another racing trip. After many miles Dan had all the fingers knawed down as far as possible and was looking at them for some tiny nub he might have missed.Having waited patiently for the moment,my dad tells Dan that he knew this would happen and that he had something for him.He reaches in his pocket and whips out a little pill bottle and gives to Dan...who takes a look in it to discover it is full of nasty looking toenail clippings my father had saved up.I do not recall that Dan thought it was anywhere near as funny as my ol man did.I was maybe 12 at the time so this was a long time ago.Does not seem possible that so many years have gone by,does it Dan. Now shake off the cobwebs get outta the sick bed.

We just got back from the hospital. Dan is showing signs of improvement.
I showed his daughter how to find hydroracer and how to register. She will be signing up tonight and giving an update.

Dan and the family really enjoyed the print out of this thread.

                              Hunter,
We will make sure Dan gets a copy of the story. He will get a kick out of it.
